Editor-in-Chief’s note!

July and August are my favorite months. Why, you ask?!I like July, because it’s the month of the Wizarding Fair, and I am a total Harry Potter geek. And August. August is the month where many people can thoroughly enjoy their summer with their family, friends or even just alone. However, I know there are those who have to work in the summer. You can’t deny that a lil’ bit sun and just feeling the summer vibe doesn’t make you secretly smile at times. And if that’s not the case, I’m pretty sure it’s kinda exciting as well to have all these events going on in Second Life.!!

In this issue, you will get a bit of the summer vibe while reading interesting interviews, tips on how to become an even better model, and how to deal with drama. Because you know there’s always a lil’ drama in the fashion industry.!I wish you a lot of fun reading this issue and of course... I wish you an awesome summer!!

We are Royals

AS: Please give us a brief history of your modeling career.!JD: I started modeling at Renaissance Modeling Agency back in 2013. Before I had graduated from their program, I was promoted to CEO. I also graduated from Fashion Modeling University and then from Metaverse Modeling Academy. I am a model for L'Amour Modeling Agency and for Models Giving Back. I also have written show scripts and am a backstage manager for fashion

shows.!AS: What made you decide to enter the Miss Royalty pageant?!JD: I knew who was associated with the pageant, and already respected them, so when I saw the pageant announced I was excited to be a part of it.!AS: What do you like about pageants and why would you recommend that someone participate?!JD: I love, love, love to style and dress up. Pageants allow you to be a  ! !!

a part of many challenges instead of just one styling. I would recommend pageants to anyone who likes to make new friends, style and be competitive. Pageants will make even the best of models stretch their styling ability.!AS: What was it like the moment you found out you had won?!JD: To be honest I was in disbelief. I had put in a lot of work towards the pageant, but I was also styling against some really great stylists. I had to be told to come up front, I was a little too shocked to respond for a few minutes. You always wonder what that moment will be like, then when it comes, you still can't believe it.!AS: What has happened to you since you won the

title?!JD: I have been taking a break. Although I have had the opportunity to be a part of two photo shoots as the winner of the pageant, and I am organizing an event to raise awareness and funds for Autism, that will happen later this year.!AS: What are your short-term and long-term plans for your future in modeling and fashion? Also, what projects do you have on the horizon?!JD: Well I hope to be able to be the best Miss Royalty that I can possibly be, for short term. I will have the crown for a year, so that will keep me busy. Like I said, I will be organizing an event this year as well. My plans in the future would be to continue to!

"!7!"!

find high quality modeling and pass on my knowledge to newer models.!AS: Are there other things you'd like to achieve? !JD: I would love to be a designer. I have a passion for creating and that would be an outlet that I could really put some creativity into. Mesh is a huge undertaking, but it is one I would love to tackle. !AS: What advice would you give to new and aspiring model? !JD: Don't take things personally. If you do not win as soon as you think you should, just chalk it up to being experience. If you keep it up, and always strive to outdo yourself, you will succeed. You are the only competition that you have. So measure yourself by how far you

come, not by how far others have come.!!

Model No-No’s Opinion from a professional

For this issue, TEOM focused on a very common error that even seasoned models have problems with. For this we asked Katie M. Xevion, owner of Superior Modeling Agency for her opinion on being prim perfect!!!

SM: Katie, for the article I wanted your opinion about unedited prims and skin sticking out of outfits. We would love your opinion and perhaps even experience.!KX: Models really need to watch prim placement… What I have noticed is that seasoned models get lazy and think they can get away with things which in my opinion, means they need to work ever harder. !SM: So the seasoned models have to work

harder. In what way?!KX: Not to be lazy and to remember you are what and who the new models look up to and strive to be.!SM: So what would you like to give the aspiring models as advice to be prim perfect?!KX: Don’t be afraid to ask someone else to prim check you! I always say that four eyes are better than two. Someone else might see something you have missed.  !!

"!20!"!

And I stress, don’t be afraid to ask for help. !SM: Would you say there are any exceptions for not being prim perfect? Or is it really a big NO NO?!KX: Well, I say it’s a big NO NO! But let’s be honest! We are now in the world of mesh! And we have this crazy thing called alpha layers! With that said, models really need to pay attention to their poses.!!So aspiring model or not, it is always important to be prim perfect.!!

To!become!a!model!

Most modern women are always striving to be better inside and out, and part of it comes down to finding the best wardrobe and style. So today I will talk to you a little about a certain profession:! !Being a model !!If you want to learn the basics to achieve a look like a model, here are a few points:!• Find a school to learn! There are some free ones where you can learn the first steps, or for those who have the opportunity, other possibilities are also available if you pay. I

recommend researching schools, you often get what you pay for!!!• We can all look spectacular just by watching the fashion trends, looking at magazines,  watching tv and even looking at what others wear.!! • Money is not necessarily the most important thing to look like a model. There are always good choices in discount sales in stores! !!• One of the first things to learn about looking like a model is to know that your skin tone comes in a range of colors that are basically!

"!24!"!

divided into two categories: cold and warm tones.!!• Basic details like hair!are very important to your look. Always be happy with your clothes, checking that it is in place and not poking into your body. !!• Use the right kind of colors so that if you combine them, you do not end up looking like a clown. A handy tip, some make up comes in combinations which can save you from reaching your layer limit!!! • Do not forget the fabulous gifts and shopping hunts out there, that's a good way to dress well!!

• To be a model in this world we must learn other professions such as photography, so you have time to start practicing and find friends who can teach you the tricks of the trade!!!• The main thing about this profession is that it will allow you to make your own creations and surprise each other!!!• Being a model is very easy but it is not at first. You must enjoy what you are doing, learning to walk on the catwalk, choosing your walk, poses for each set of clothes and all the other details that I mentioned before until you’re finally satisfied when others see you as a supermodel! !!

"!25!"!

• Many people want to be models thinking it's a lucrative job,but it just depends on how good you can become. While it will be a job and earn you money, never forget that your soul is the reflection of your body.!!• Make your goals reflect the type of model you want to be. Catwalk model, magazine model, store model, blog model, so it's easier to know where to begin.!!• Professional assistance is indispensable for achieving your goals in this line of work.! !• Last but not least, if you can pay for some professional photos to start a portfolio, this would

be a good start to open doors in this world of modeling!!!• Always be willing to change, but don’t you give up what you like and your personality. That will make the difference between a model and a supermodel you!!!

New Model in the Pageant World:  Meet the Semi-Finalist of Miss Azul 2015 Ms. Milla Crumbby Kiett Prince, M.D. !June 30, 2015 !!

"!42!"!

TEOM Magazine had the distinct honor and pleasure to sit down with and interview Milla Crumb, the semi-finalist of the Miss Azul 2015 pageant and contest!  She is a new model that entered into an established and highly competitive pageant contest, and placed as a semi-finalist!  This is a  difficult task to do when faced with veteran models who live and breathe pageant competitions.  We talked shop about her life in Second Life, why she chose to compete in Miss Azul, and any tips she had to aspiring supermodels who may be interested in competing.  !!Kiett: Milla! It is so very nice to have met you here in metaspace! Thank you for interviewing with us! I personally love how we’re an entire continent away from one another, but SL is our nation with common ground. I’ve always been curious about how people came into SL.  What’s your story and how did you get into modeling? !!Milla: I came online because my RL Christmas that year was boring. A

friend told me about this "Game" and so, I taste, I liked the taste and stayed. I learned [from] a lot of new people, and made friends both SL and RL.! My interest was in my first time in SL as a fantasy avatar. I was a Vampire and played Bloodlines a long time. I have my own Clan and we have fun together. For 2 years I saw a post and I talked with the [fashion] blogger and come to my first agency after a time and learned! !!"!43!"!

some about modeling in SL. !The agency closed, so I went to MVW and had some lessons. I did my first competition and got the 2nd runner up and the title Supermodel Fashion City Berlin- and I graduated.  ! Kiett:  Milla for one, I love that your accent and personality comes through in our text interview. You really do seem like a lovely person.  I liked how you described SL that you “tasted” it and liked it. It does have different flavors for every taste! I know many models who have affiliated themselves with modeling agencies to gain exposure, experience and training.  Was this true for you as well? !

!Milla:  Thank you! Yes. I graduated from Ford Models Agency NYC in October ‘14. I have been with Dresscode Agency 2013; Ford Model Agency NYC 2014; Canary Top Model Agency 2015; and  Fashion Teller House Agency 2015!! Kiett:  That’s wonderful! I do believe models, especially new models should broaden their resumes with more than one agency and type of agency. It increases your portfolio, professional skills and demonstrates your versatility. Being the semi-finalist in the Miss Azul 2015 competition! Wow! Congratulations! How has the experience been so far?  ! !

"!44!"!

Milla: Thank you! For me, Miss Azul is the important job at the moment.  I try to get better with every style I do for Azul and this competition.  It is so interesting to meet the other pageant [contestants] and compete with the best; to see their stylings and uniqueness. They are all so beautiful ladies. ! Azul was a part of my SL since the first day I am in here. I never thought I can be a model. It is a big dream to be a part of it now.  For it to come true and I am one of the Finalists!  I am really proud to be a part of Miss Azul 2015.!!Kiett:  New models may find it a very intimidating task to enter and compete with well-known and professional veteran models. What advice do you have for them to enter into Miss Azul or similar competitions?! !

Milla: Well, as I am also still more one of the newer models in this business and still try to establish myself into it, I would say I still follow more the advice I learned then giving them to others. The only thing I can say is to raise as many experiences as possible in all kind of areas, like for myself right now the Miss Azul competition.! !Kiett:  Ah, very good advice. Broaden your experiences and not just stick to one mode, like avant garde or high fashion print modeling, but go for urban chic, enter into pageants and stretch yourself. No one likes a one trick pony but Mr. Boring!  Hello! Goodbye! Do you feel that you were given as much of an equal opportunity to be judged on your merits rather than who you know? ! !Milla:  I fully trust in the!

"!45!"!

professionalism of the Miss Azul Team and that the judges are picked in the most professional way to score us candidates in the most neutral way and with the focus on the instructions they are given. ! !Kiett: I am personally a huge fan of the Miss Azul competition, and I love to hear that they continue to uphold such professional standards.  So, Milla did you feel that you were fully prepared as a relatively new model to compete in the Miss Azul 2015? ! !Milla:  Yes, of course. If you are a model, you need to learn every time and this competition is one of the best decisions you can

make.! !Kiett:  Are there any unique issues that contributed to the challenges being difficult or easy?! !Milla: So far I didn't have big issues for the challenges till now, as the gowns of Azul and my passion for formal stylings challenge me to raise the best out of me and my skills. Of course, it is exciting to compete against the other candidates and to see their stylings, but that is for me a learning and experience process and no issues at all.! !Kiett: As a SL player and model, what do you hope to see in the future? !

"!46!"!

Milla: Maybe in the future I will make more modeling experiences and be more confident, then it would be nice if I can teach others.  I am not very good in building, but I am a blogger.  I make my own website:  https://millacrumb.wordpress.com/! !Kiett: I saw your website, l-o-v-e! Teaching is an experience in and of itself. TEOM Academy would definitely welcome you as a guest speaker.  Before we close, what would you like to say to aspiring supermodels?! !Milla:  How often you get rejected in any contest, casting, whatever - never stop trying and to continue to do your best.  You can give your best in everything you do, if positive or negative result, it will raise your skills, experiences and self-confidence.! !Kiett:  Very well said! And where can we find you next Ms. Milla Crumb?! !Milla:  Hopefully, in front of the stage by Miss Azul!! !

Kiett: We at TEOM wish you many successes Milla!   !

DRAMA 101:  You Want Some, Come Get Some!!

by Kiett Prince, M.D.!!

"!50!"!

First of all, let me just put it out there: I love to watch the drama unfold when I see the crazy about to happen, or someone said the wrong thing to the wrong person and there’s a verbal smack down. Oh and please be the passive aggressor who instigated the drama with a quiet and unassuming person who they underestimated. To see karma happening can be in and of itself a high that requires the accompaniment of popcorn, chocolate, a glass of wine (or purple Kool Aid depending on the genre of drama), and my favorite girlfriends to share it all with.  Add to it a great meme picture to sum it all up and I’m giddy - and snatching that meme picture to boot!  !!

Hey, at least I’m honest about it! ! !Fashion in Second Life can be full of drama.  Why wouldn’t it be?  We’re avatars with people behind them with our own issues after all, complete with egos, high/low self-esteem and personality quirks. There’s no avoiding drama if you’re out trying to make it happen in SL fashion.  Whether you’re new or a veteran i, there’s no avoiding it.  ! !But if you’re breaking into or getting back into the fashion world, there is one thing you need to know when the drama goes public:! !!

"!51!"!

Protect your professionalism & reputation.   ! !There is no honor or high road to be taken by not responding to being put on blast in SL or  Facebook.  Though the blast may be made up of lies, hearsay or perceived injury to their reputation, the loss of a fan base, customers, clients, or a potential employer is a real injury to you.  ! !Be careful in your response when clients or customers have put you on blast in SL or FB for failure to honor a contract, a bad purchase, bad customer service or a perceived injury.   ! !!

Those who have put you on public blast may feel they have no other recourse or resolution with you because you may have handled something so badly in private, that they feel publicly shaming you is the only way to go. ! !If it is about customer service and you handled things badly, a sincere public apology will go a long way to make amends and gain the respect of new clients and customers.  Do all that you can to resolve their issue and post in the same place they did (SL group or FB) to show what you did to take care of the issue.  Don’t talk about it, be about it.  !!

"!52!"!

What happens when a SL fashion house, mogul, or pageantry puts you on blast to attack your reputation?  Respond swiftly, graciously and professionally.  Make sure you seek assistance from a trusted friend who can remain level-headed and objective to help edit your response.  Starting off your response with “You S.O.B!…..Duck you and yo Mama too!” will start a war that you may not win. ! !Regardless of how long that mogul or pageantry has been pushing around that tired old avi, it is never appropriate for them to air dirty laundry, hurt feelings, or their perceived injury. My favorite dramas from these types is when they make their blast attack in their

SL group’s public relations notice.    ! !It is a thinly veiled attack and one that is cowardly to begin with. These individuals and institutions have more than likely passed their SL glory, and are on the decline in popularity because of their inability to whip that coo-coo personality of theirs under control.  ! !Your gracious, elegant and professional response will be admired and will show that you are not passive aggressive. This will keep you in SL fashion to be as successful as you dream.! !Look around at some of the veteran models and!

"!53!"!

designers you admire who have maintained a high degree of professionalism consistently to gain an idea of how to conduct yourself during similar attacks.  They’re not immune to SL drama, but they’ve mastered dealing with it effectively, graciously and quickly.! !
