Dear Sir,
I have pleasure in reporting that I enjoyed fairly goodreception of your Radio Station WOTT during its regular broadcastingschedule on the morning of Friday, September 23, 1960. I tuned into the Big Sound as you signed on the air at 5:58-h- A.M., EasternDaylight Saving Time, and I heard the opening devotions, followedby a program of popular recorded music, the weather report, andcommercial announcements until 6:25 A.M., E.D.S.T. WOTT wastransmitting on its assigned frequency of 1410 kilocycles with anannounced power of 5000 watts, and put a surprisingly good signaldown here into Pennsylvania on this occasion. I am situated in theeastern part of the Keystone State, 60 miles North of Philadelphiaand 90 miles West of New York City.
WOTT's signal in this area had excellent strength, S-9 +,with an input voltage into my receiver of 20 microvolts as measuredon the signal -strength meter. Fading was negligible, and there wasno atmospheric static. Some interference was encountered fromstation KQV, Pittsburgh, Pa. (235 miles West of here), which wasalso operating with a power of 5000 watts on your frequency of 1410kc. However, your powerful transmission generally overrode theinterference until 6:25 A.M. in a fairly clear condition (Readability -4),affording intelligible program reception at this distance from Water-town. After 6:25 A.M. station WING, Dayton Ohio, began to cut in onthe same channel, and around 6:29 A.M. our local station WLSH, Lansford,Pa., signed on the air on 1410 kc., thus ending DX reception on yourfrequency. During my reception it was noted that your carrier wassteady, clean-cut, and fully modulated. The tonal quality of bothspeech and music was excellent. It was a pleasure to hear WOTTreaching down here into Pennsylvania in such fine shape on thisoccasion, and you are to be congratulated on the power and efficiencyof your transmitting equipment.
I heard WOTT on my National "HRO" 9 -tube communications-type superhet, 1935 model. My antenna is a single -wire inverted "L",150 ft. long and 30 ft. high, extending toward the Southeast, withthe lead-in to the receiver coming off the Northwest end. My groundconnection is made to an iron water pump in a well 175 ft. deep. The weather here at the time of my reception was clear, with thetemperature at 41 degrees Fahrenheit.

Dear Mr. Geary,
I apologize for the delay in responding to your excellent anddetailed reception report, but you can appreciate that starting upa new radio station with a small staff is a time consuming endeavor.
As you already know, WYSL operates from one-half hour before localsunrise to local sunset with 500 watts on 1030 kHz. We utilizea nondirectional, full one -quarter length tower, 247' in height. We run dual RCA BTA-1R 1KW transmitters in alternate -mainconfiguration. These units are cut back to 500 watt operationby slight modification of the power supply to provide lower PA drive. It might interest you to learn that one of these transmitters wason the air in your neck of the woods and the transmitter youlogged on February 20, 19987, was the standby unit for WYNS, 1150kHz, in Lehighton, PA. I was in Lehighton last fall to inspectthis unit for purchase, and enjoyed your area of Pennsylvaniavery much.
You may also be interested to learn that WYSL has applied for apower increase to a full 1 KW on 1030 kHz, which may improve yourDX'ing. In any case, we at WYSL wish you best of luck and continuedsuccess in your hobby.
Of course, your report is excellent and is entitled to fullverification.

Dear Sir;
Thank you for your reception report of April 2, 1967 and pleaseaccept this as verification of your reception of WRRC.
WRRC transmits with a power of 500 watts using a 3 tower directionalarray directed 301.5° or more or less northwest from Nanuet, N. Y.,were the station is actually located. There is one major lobe inthe northwest direction with three small local lobes. 15 miles (approx)south, splatter from WADO on 1280 kc. knocks us out. So, as youcan see, you are approx. broadside to our lobe and in an area ofweak signal strength.

We are pleased to confirm your reception of WRSG on JANUARY 27, 1986, from4:57 PM to 5:02 PM, EASTERN STANDARD TIME. The program details you mentionedwere confirmed by our program log, and by our News Director, Kathy Whyte. We do not have new Q.S.L. cards for the call letters WRSG, but I hope thisconfirmation on our new station letterhead will suffice.
I was interested in your note regarding confirmation of reception in 1947.I just spoke with Charlie Hallinan, WKOP's first Chief Engineer. He says"Hello" and says he remembers your first WKOP reception report. Charlie islooking for your report in his file. He is also trying to find an old Q.S L.card for you. The original Raytheon transmitter that was used on 750 K.C. isstill used at night on our present tmquency of 1360 K.C. It is a 1000 watttransmitter operated at 500 watts into a three -tower directional array.During the day we use a 5000 watt C.C.A. transmitter with a slightly differerdirectional pattern. Both patterns put the major signal lobe to the north.
I am enclosing a copy of a photograph taken in 1947 showing the WKOP towerbeing erected. From 1947 to 1950 WKOP operated during the day on 750 K.C.with 1000 watts power as you know. In 1950 the frequency was changed to1360 K.C. and night operation was added. (1000 watts non -directional day,500 watts directional at night.) It was necessary to remove the top 75 feetof the tower in the photograph and add two additional towers. In 1955 thedaytime power was increased to 5000 watts with a directional pattern similarto that used at night.
In August of 1985, I was hired as Chief Engineer of WKOP-AM and WAAL-FM.Charlie Hallinan retired a couple of years ago but is still active in thelocal 6hapaerof S.B.E. (Society of Broadcast Engineers). Charlie built muchof the transmitter equipment still used at this time. He put.the towers up,built the antenna phasing equipment, and designed the remote control switch-ing equipment, used to control our transmitters from our downtown studio.I am striving to maintain the tradition of excellence started by Charlie.
Thanks again for your detailed reception report. I have no trouble confirminyour reception of WRSG. I wish that all the reports we receive could be asdetailed as yours. OccasionallrIdo some DXing in the Standard BroadcastBand. The main receiver I use is a Fisher direction finder with a shieldedloop about 18 inches in diameter. I purchased it at a Hamfest a couple ofyears ago. it really pulls in the stations. Since I became Chief Engineerof WRSG I don't have as much time for DXing as I used to. I do my transmittemaintenance after midnight. When it is necessary to work on the 500 watttransmitter, I put the 5000 watt transmitter on the air. Listen for thLarry King Show on 1360 K.C. after midnight some night.

Dear Mr. Geary,
Please allow me to apologize for length of time that it has taken, to get you thisletter. It was certainly a pleasure to speak with you on your recent visit to Olean, NY.
This letter is to confirm your reception of WOEN-AM at 1360 kiloHertz on themornings of November 12th & 13th in the year 2000.
At the time of your reception, the station was operating at 1000 watts.
The slogan "the Sunshine Station," that you heard during the early morningbroadcast was probably a reference that was made by Mr. Bill Connelly, our AM"morning guy". Bill operates the AM, weekday mornings from 6am until 9am offeringnews, sports, & weather, along with a vignette, we call "Viewpoint" (News and Views onlocal issues.) a program that airs from 8:05am until 8:30, following the CBS radionetwork news. From 8:30 until 9am, we run a (T)radio program called "The Hotline".This program allows listeners to call in... to buy, sell or trade anything of value.
WOEN 1360AM is more commonly referred to as: "Hometown Radio". Offering asatellite music format, known as "The Music of Your Life", with celebrated personalitieslike Wink Martindale and Gary Owens.
As was stated in your initial letter, reception conditions may improve "with thecolder winter weather, " that is once again, on our doorstep.
Again, please allow this letter to serve as "long overdue" confirmation andplease keep us posted on any future reception!

Dear Sir:
We were very pleased to receive your reported reception of
our station. I am very happy to confirm said reception.
Your report is very complete and leaves nothing to the
imagination-Ours is a directional daytime station with the
major lobe towards Toronto, Ont, thus you were receiving us from
our secondary lobe. We protect stations in Fulton, NY., and in
Cleveland, Ohio. Needless to say in those directions we have
a very limited signal.
Our power is one KW., and we use RCA equipment, with a
two tower array.
I was very impressed with your receiving setup. Being
an old 'ham' of close to thirty years, I can really appreciate it.
Yours is the best DX report we have received so far. Thank you
very much and 'good hunting'

Dear Mr. Geary,

October 25, 1973
It is indeed my pleasure to confirm your reception of station WGHTfrom 6:01 AM to 6:40 AM 10T, October 11, 1973 on 1380 kHz. Your lettercame as a pleasant surprise to me as well as the staff of NIGHTas weare in the middle of remodelling and rewiring the WGHT studios.I used to be quite an active AM DXer about 15 years ago and since thenfind answering DX reports a real treat. May 1937 Philco receiver isnow used mainly to monitor my various AM clients & check clocks againstCHIT & NWV.
It is interesting to note the type of antenna/ground system you are using. That 200' inverted "L" is actually a .25 wave (90°) at 1230 kHz or .28 wave(101°) for 1380 kHz, just a bit more efficient. That 175' well no doubt
serves as an excellent ground, especially since you are located in an area
of relatively low ground conductivity. Now a bit of data re WGHT:
During the pre -sunrise hours that you heard WGHT, power is cut back to106 watts to protect CKPC, Brantford, Ontario, Canada from excessiveskywave interference. Radiation toward CKPC is held to 51.7 mv/m/Mile,while along the ground is at 61.8 mv/m at 1 mile. If you look at the
enclosed 1O skywave propagation report, radiation toward Walnutport is48.25 mv/M/Mile at 32.5° or 120uv/m 10% of the time (before sunrise) at
the receiving point. The report might appear complex but was interesting
to calculate just to find out how much signal you were getting. WGHT,
formerly WFSR, was purchased by Taylor Aviation, Hammondsport N.Y. about
a year ago; the pre -sunrise modification was made last February to a
stalwart 1962 Gates BC -500T transmitter. It has taken a liberal amount of
cleaning & brazing at the tower, re -tubing & re -wiring at both xmtr and
studio to produce a clean, undistorted sound. Since the audio section of
the transmitter is 100% push-pull, careful attention was made to use only
precision balanced pairs of tubes from Amperex & RCA; the husky 833A
modulator tubes were precision -crafted by Philips in Holland to within 1%
of each other. I've enclosed a technical fact sheet about WGHT, plus some
other brochures for your interest. Incidentally, you might try to pick
WO another client, WGMF (1500 kHz 250 -Day, no pre-sunrise) of Watkins Glen,
New York, but expect some interference from, WTOP, Washington. In closing,
it was good to hear from you- thanks again for a precision report. Write

Dear Kermit:
RADIO STATION
w sv/WELLSVILLE, NEW YORK
December 7, 1955
I hope you will forgive me for the lateness of my reply to your veryinteresting letter of the 1st of November. As you can possibly imagine, the duties of a station manager in setting up a new broadcast stationare manifold and heavy. I'm just now beginning to get "breathers"from time to time andthought I would use such an opportunity toanswer your letter.
Actually, we were a bit amazed by your letter as time had not thoughttoo much about what we might be doing in that area. It was gratifying tolearn that you had picked us up there in Waknutport even though wecertainly have no aspirations toward that section of the country. Inour own area we have daytime reports from extended areas too, farbeyond what we had hoped for or can ever possibly to service eommercially.
I see that you are a member of the National Radio Club and think that itwould be interesting at some future date to run a two-hour DX pgm for yourmembers. Would you please take this up with the national office and see ifthey could get a bit of advance publicity on it? We could begin atI. A.M. and continue the DX until our regular sign-on at 5:58 A.M. Itwould certainly be an interesting experiment.
This will serve to verify that you did receive W1SV in Wellsville, New Yorkon the morning of November 1, 1955 between the hours of 2:43 A.M. and3:10 A.M. EST. The logged material you have shown is accurate and correct.
Thank you very much for your kind wishes on our future. You might be pleasedto learn that we have begun our first month of operation in the blackside of the ledger, a feat for a new station.

Dear Kermit:
Thank you for your report of reception of Station, WKSNon March 2, from 3:39 to 4:19 Eastern Standard time AM. Yourreport is clear and concise as to the program broadcast atthat time, and is in full concurrence with our program log.
When I opened your letter your name struck me as beingfamiliar, so in searching back in our DX files I found thatyou had reported reception of this station in 1962, on February2, at 5:31 to 5:39 AM. At that time our call letters were WXYJ.We changed to WKSN (kissin radio) on December 30, 1963, whennew management took over here. We also went on a 24 hourschedule in 1963.
It is gratifying to know that our signal gets out sowell. At a distance of 210 miles, things have to be just rightto get as strong a signal as you report, and this is reflectedin the transmission and receiving systems equally. Congratulat-ions on your fine equipment and antenna system.
WKSN operates 24 hours per day except from 3:00 to 8:00 AMSunday mornings, on 1340 KC with 250 watts. The transmitter isa Western Electric 451-A. The tower is 150 foot self supporting, mounted on the roof of the WKSN building in downtown Jamestown.
Once again, thanks for your report, Kermit. It is apleasure to hear from you and others in the N.R.C. I am alsohappy to be able to answer your report in the affirmative.Best wishes to you and good luck with your Radio Club activ.ities.

Dear Mr. Geary:
Thank you for your very detailed reception report, and your
nice comments about our signal.
As you may or may not know, WLIM is a relatively new station.
What used to be WYFA, changed ownership last month and format and
call letters were changed on July 13th.
Not that it probably matters to you, but the man on the sign on tape
is Jack Ellsworth -- my partner, and I did the news. Most people mis-
understand Jeff Shade's name -- thinking
right.
Thanks for listening.
