Technicolor TG582n - Assigning a block of IP addresses
Note: The following settings will REMOVE the DHCP range which may disconnect you from the
router.
Before we start:
It is best to factory restore the router before configuration. This avoids any potential issues.
Make sure your network card or wireless adaptor is set to pick up the IP address automatically via
DHCP. Alternatively set your network adaptor to use the following details.
Log into the router by navigating to 192.168.1.254.
If the device has been factory reset it will log you straight in.
If it asks you for login details the default username is Administrator and password is usually the
serial number.
Once logged in select Technicolor Gateway from the left of the screen.
Then select Setup my Technicolor Gateway from the tasks menu.
On the service selection screen pick ADSL Expert
Enter in the ADSL username and password
Select Inclusive Router IP and then click next.
By default the router will show the current Router IP address.
Enter the WAN/Public IP address you were provided into the Router IP address. If you have been
assigned a block of IP addresses this should be the second IP address in the range.
Set the Subnet Mask to the one provided. With a block of 4 IP addresses this is 255.255.255.252.
Click Next
Enter the DHCP start and End ranges. Please note that these are removed when the setup
completes. Click Next
You can enable the Firewall, however, by default this is disabled as usually the second IP address is
assigned to a hardware firewall.
Click Next
You can change the wireless SSID and password if required. I recommend leaving it as default.
Click Next
You can change the username and password to access the routers configuration. Either leave it as
default (no password) or set the password to the serial number.
Click Next
Click Start
Wait for the configuration to complete.
Click Finish to complete the process.
This completes assigning the router to the first IP address. Please note that DHCP is not enabled on
the router. Please see last section on this guide if you wish to enable it.
Assigning the second IP address
In order to configure a device to connect via the second usable IP address you will need to configure
the device manually. The below steps show how this is done on a PC but the same settings would
apply for other devices.
Go to the network adaptor, double click the icon, and select properties
Then double click on Internet Protocol Version 4.
Tick the option Use the following IP address
Enter the second usable IP address in the IP address field.
Set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0
Set the default gateway to the first usable IP address (the one previously assigned to the router)
Set the DNS settings to the router or preferably Googles DNS servers (as above).
Click OK to save these settings.
If you now look at the details of your network connection you should see something like the above.
You can now check your IP address by typing into Google ‘What is my IP’ and you’ll see the results.
Adding a DHCP Manually
Log back into the router.
Select Home Network
Select Interfaces
Click on LocalNetwork
Click on Configure
Click on Add in the DHCP Pools section.
Enter similar details as to the above. Please note this is setting the router to use Googles DNS
servers. Click on Apply to save the settings.
