Team Sports• How many people play a team sport?

• How do team sports work?

• What do you have to do in order to be successful as a team?

How is Your Body a Team?• All of the parts of your body must

work together to keep you alive

• If one part does not function properly, then your body does not work as well

• Let’s take a look at the players…

Human Body SystemsHuman Body SystemsChapter 35.1

The Players

• The levels of organization in a multicellular organism from smallest to largest are:– cell→ tissue → organ → organ system

Now let’s take a closer look at the players…

1.Cell

2.Tissue

3.Organ

4.Organ system

Cell• Basic unit of structure and function in an

organism

• Specialized cells– are uniquely suited to perform a particular function

Tissue• A group of cells that perform a single function

• Four basic types of tissues:– Muscle: allows body to move

– Epithelial: glands and tissues that cover interior and exterior body surfaces

– Connective: provides support for the body

– Nervous: transmits nerve impulses

What is the purpose of each of these items?

What type of tissue is represented by each item?

Organ / Organ Systems

• Organ-group of different types of tissues that work

together to perform a single function

• Organ systems-group of organs that perform closely related

functions

Questions

• Can you name some organs found in the human body?

• What are some of the functions of these organs?

• Can you name the 11 organ systems found in the human body?

• What are the main functions of each organ system?

The Organ Systems• 11 different organ systems are

organized in the body
