Learning Objectives

● Participants will learn how to create video inservies to empower their students with disabilities to inform their families, teachers, and staff of their needs and accommodations.

● Participants will learn how to create videos using a green screen.

● Participants will learn how to incorporate educational technology into literacy lessons.

THE TIMES ARE CHANGING…

● Seven out of 10 children under the age of 12 live in a tablet-owning household.

● 77 percent of adults in a Nielsen survey said their children play games on an iPad.

● 57 percent of adults in the survey said their children use iPads for educational apps.

We are Changing● Approximately 55 percent of Minnesota schools now have

some level of a 1:1 program.

● Over the next year, another 30 programs are projected to

start, and a number of existing programs are expanding.

● The majority of these programs started in the last three to

four years.

How we Teach Needs to Change Too...

● Teaching with technology is no longer an

‘option’ or something to be ‘added on’ to

effective classroom teaching. It is essential for

teachers and students to become critical

thinkers and producers of new knowledge if

they are to see themselves as stakeholders in

the future (Coiro, J., Knobel, M., Lankshear, C.,

& Leu, D. J., 2008).

WHAT ARE YOU NOTICING IN YOUR

BUILDINGS?

What is a Green Screen?

A green screen is used by

filmmakers to make it look like

actors and actresses are flying

through space, or is used by TV

weather announcers when they are

standing in front of an animated

weather map.

They are easy and fun to use!
