• Rated Power Output 1.2MW (2 x 600kW) at 2.4m/s
• Twin axial flow rotors of 16m diameter with a tip speed of 12m/s
• Rotor blades can be pitched to 270° work in both directions
• Produced nearly 10GWh • Record 22.52MWh in one day • Supplies ecofriendly electricity to
approximately 1,500 homes • Rotor compensates for oscillating
pressure

Environmental lessons learnt
Strangford Lough assigned many European environmental designations Regulator imposed intensive 3 year post installation monitoring requirements • SeaGen successfully operated under an Adaptive Management Approach
which is managed by a Science Group with independent chair
ICOE Halifax Page 11 S Stoye / D Langston
Environmental lessons learnt
• Passive acoustic monitoring and seal tagging demonstrated SeaGen is not a barrier to marine mammals
• Bird populations not affected • No negative impacts on benthic
community • >£2 million (3.6mCAD) has been
invested in the environmental monitoring program
ICOE Halifax Page 12 S Stoye / D Langston
Lessons learnt to enable future developments
• Operational experiences enabled upscaling of device to 1MW powertrain • Project development for further deployments informed by experiences gained
at Strangford • Component failures facilitated more robust supply chain and equipment
specification • FMEA used to improve ongoing equipment design • Input from Siemens continues to improve systems and • Maximise onshore component and system testing
