SUSTAINABILITY REPORT
Bologna, 27 october 2016
In recent years Ducati has grown, changed and evolved following a precise strategic path that, while still having deep roots in the world of sports motorcycles, has expanded its range of action to include new segments like Enduro, Cruiser and Scrambler.
This evolution opens the way to a new sustainable approach in the development of products and processes because we are firmly convinced that this makes an effective contribution to the business's success and safeguards its future development.
To demonstrate this focus in a concrete and explicit manner, besides having achieved UNI EN ISO 14001 certification and establishing a series of compliance rules that also reflect the expectations of the whole Audi and Volkswagen Group of which we are a part, for the first time in its history Ducati decided to implement a sustainable event management system according to the ISO 20121 standard for World Ducati Week 2016.
The three days of WDW2016 were exciting and intense, bringing together more than 81,000 people from 66 countries, 159 Desmo Owners Clubs (DOC) coming from 38 countries, and featuring more than 120 activities. Incredible numbers that are quite exciting and add to the unforgettable moments experienced in the paddock of the Misano World Circuit, where a stretch of motorcycles bore witness not only of the value of the brand, but also the enthusiasm of the fans for our motorcycles and the whole universe that surrounds them.
It is therefore evident that an event of this magnitude, which by its nature concentrates a large number of motorcycles and people, inevitably generates environmental, social, and economic impacts, both positive and negative, on the host location. To mitigate these impacts, Ducati put in place a series of initiatives that made it possible to certify the WDW as the first sustainable motorcycle event in the world.
Thanks to the support of the stakeholders - especially the participants themselves - these initiatives made it possible to reach many of the goals that had been set, but also to identify a few areas for improvement to take into consideration in future editions. The direction taken is therefore the right one, even if we know that it is only the beginning of a journey that we hope will contribute to raise the attention of all of us towards the sustainable management of our companies, with the hope that this will allow future generations to live in a better society.

6. FUTURE OBJECTIVES
Motorcycle events like the World Ducati Week (WDW) bring together a large number of people, producing both significant economic effects and an impact on the environment and the territory in which they take place.
The idea of certifying the 2016 edition of WDW as a Sustainable Event stems from the desire to environmental and social approach.
Through its events, sport can unite the masses around fundamental values and, speaking a universal language, it is able to raise awareness of important issues. The environment, as well as social responsibility, are in fact a few of these. For this reason the WDW was an opportunity to involve stakeholders, partners, suppliers and participants in designing and realising an engaging experience but also, for the first time in its history, with a focus on sustainability.

Ducati's strategic partner for sustainability, Hera, enriched WDW 2016 with "green" content. It supported activities like the recycling of waste produced during the event, and the installation of an urban spring for drinking water to help limit the number of plastic bottles used and to reduce CO² emissions from their transport. Involved for some time in promoting sustainable mobility, Hera Comm placed a kiosk for recharging electric cars in the temple of engines. At the Hera booth, more athletic participants were able to compete on a special exercise bike shaped like a motorcycle and connected to a power generator. As people pedalled, a column lit up to illustrate the everyday objects that require that particular amount of energy to run. It was an intuitive and fun way to understand the "effort" needed to support one's lifestyle.

technical sponsor of WDW 2016, the ME Group is an Italian company established in 2013 that has as its core business the production of electric scooters. During the event, in addition to being present with its booth, ME also provided Ducatistaff with a dozen electric scooters, making it easy for them to get around with zero impact on the environment. A way, therefore, of raising awareness among Ducati staff and event participants of the importance of sustainable mobility.

Misano World Circuit, which every year welcomes about 600,000 visitors, has been focused on the challenge of sustainability for some time now. In recent years the circuit has reduced its electrical consumption by 30% and has installed solar panels on the grandstands for a total production of 440 kW. Work was also done to reduce noise. A waste sorting project was started in partnership with the multi-utility Hera for the Superbike World Championship, and the project was continued for waste management at WDW 2016.

Shell has been a Ducati technical partner for several years, and there could not have been a better occasion than WDW 2016 to present a product that has been defined as revolutionary: the new Shell Advance Ultra oil with PurePlus Technology. This is the first lubricating oil that is not derived from crude oil but rather from natural gas, capable of guaranteeing a reduction in fuel consumption (due to the improved efficiency of the engine). It is also an innovative product from a sustainability point of view if one considers that lower fuel consumption results in lower emissions.

WDW WITHOUT BORDERSWDW is an international event and, as such, is aimed at both the Italian public, which represents the greatest percentage, and the international public. To facilitate the participation and involvement of foreigners, various activities were planned.
> The simultaneous interpretation in English of Ducati University courses
> The publication of the event website in multiple languages (Italian, English, Spanish, German, French)
> International bikers games, i.e., a team challenge roughly based on the wellknown "It's a Knockout" format with the aim of encouraging exchange and friendship among the participants coming from various countries.

SUSTAINABLE MOBILITYBy its nature, WDW is an event that involves a very high number of motorcycles concentrated in a small area. To at least partly compensate the environmental impact generated, sustainable shuttle services were provided, both for the operating staff during the event and participants.
> Electric scooters and electric bicycles used by the staff Event staff had a total of 12 electric scooters for travelling within the circuit, as well as some electric bicycles.
> Audi e-trons used by the staff In addition to scooters and electric bicycles, the event staff also had three electric cars for travelling to and from the event venue.
> Shuttle services To allow participants to move from one activity to another in the circuit, two trains with 60 seats each were provided, which also gave added mobility to participants with disabilities.

SUSTAINABILITY ACTIONS
RESOURCES AND WASTEWDW brought together thousands of people inside the Misano circuit to share their passion for Ducati through the many activities offered. The organisation of an event of this magnitude necessarily entails the consumption of resources such as electricity to power facilities and attractions, drinking water for the toilets and refreshment, and paper for the organisation, to cite just a few. On the other hand, the presence of a very large number of people can generate a considerable environmental impact, the greatest of all being the production of waste. To mitigate the overall impact of the event, different solutions were employed, like: > Staging of sorted waste collection areas Six sorted waste collection areas were set up in the paddock (for paper, plastic and cans, organic and undifferentiated waste). Over the course of the event, from the initial staging to final dismantling, about 21 tons of waste were collected.
> Use of compostable utensils In some eating areas in the paddock and in the circuit restaurant the dishes were served using compostable containers, thus avoiding the generation of large amounts of plastic waste.
> Installation of the "Urban Spring" for dispensing drinking water free of charge An "Urban Spring" was installed in one area of the circuit, dispensing still and sparkling water free of charge.
> Use of recycled and/or FSC/PEFC certified paper All printed material generated by the event organisation, like the maps distributed to participants, was printed on recycled or FSC/PEFC certified material, i.e., verified by international certification systems that ensure that the raw material used to manufacture a product in wood or paper comes from forests that meet strict environmental, social and economic standards.

LINKS TO THE LOCAL AREAConfirming the ongoing collaboration between Ducati and the local community, WDW2016 was one of many activities organised to promote the Motor Valley brand. The involvement of the local community included both activities aimed at the promotion of the local area and collaboration with local volunteer associations.
> WDW Tour around the Motor Valley Participants at WDW could choose from a number of tours to discover the Motor Valley, motorcycle itineraries designed to immerse participants in the most beautiful places in the Emilia-Romagna region, including the Riviera and its inland, as well as the Republic of San Marino.
> Promotion of local cuisine using local foods To promote local cuisine and at the same time reduce atmospheric emissions, the various eating areas in the circuit used locally produced products.
> Involvement of lifeguard associations at the "Rustida" The "Rustida", or the usual barbecue held at the circuit, was realised in collaboration with the lifeguard associations from neighbouring municipalities along the Adriatic coast, becoming chefs for a night and preparing local foods (piadina and sausage), free for all the participants.
> Involvement of local volunteer associations The Association of Social Promotion "IO CENTRO" was established at Misano in 2013 with the aim of carrying out socially useful activities on behalf of its members, namely young people in difficult conditions and not self sufficient, stimulating interpersonal relationships and social relations, thanks to the collaboration with the local area in the promotion of initiatives and events for young people. During the WDW, the youth of the association assisted in distributing the Welcome Kit to participants and giving them useful information about the event.
> Opening of the parade by the mayor of Misano With this edition of WDW, Ducati has further strengthened its bond with institutions, organisations and local authorities by confirming its constructive cooperation with the municipalities of Misano Adriatico, Riccione and Cattolica, as well as the Republic of San Marino, which organised during the period various initiatives for the "Ducatistas" throughout the region. The Mayor of Misano, Stefano Giannini, opened the traditional parade on Friday, riding a pink Scrambler (in honour of Pink Night which took place at the same time as WDW), the parade having been organised with the support of the Misano and Riccione municipal police departments.

To ensure this result, both documentary and field audits were scheduled during the course of the Event.
> Field and documentary audits to guarantee compliance with working conditions and worker safety During all phases of the Event (from staging to dismantling), both documentary and field audits were performed to ensure compliance with the working conditions and the safety of the workers themselves.

A LEGACY FOR THE FUTUREThe legacy of an event is a set of works, projects and ideas that after the realisation of the event becomes a part of the collective heritage of the entire community. Ducati saw in WDW 2016 a unique opportunity to raise awareness in its target audience of two issues that it considers to be important: road safety and environmental sustainability.
RAISING ROAD SAFETY AWARENESSRAISING ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
FOR A SUSTAINABLE WDW 474Sustainability Report World Ducati Week 2016
SUSTAINABILITY ACTIONS
RAISING ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESSWDW is the biggest event organised by Ducati, able to involve thousands of people. For this reason, it has provided an opportunity to engage and raise awareness among stakeholders, partners, suppliers and participants on the subjects of sustainability and social responsibility.
> Publication of sustainability information on the website, the app, and during the event Even in simple things, in our everyday activities we can make a difference and choose to adopt sustainable behaviours. From this simple premise, Ducati has made available informative materials in digital format both on its website and in an app to raise awareness among participants so that they reflect on the correct behaviour during the event and at home.
> Energy Sprint by Hera At the Hera booth, more athletic participants were able to compete on a special exercise bike shaped like a motorcycle and connected to a power generator. As people pedalled, a column lit up to illustrate the everyday objects that require that particular amount of energy to run. It was an intuitive and fun way to understand the "effort" needed to support one's lifestyle.
> Use of compostable tableware in the most popular dining areas At the Santa Monica restaurant and in some eating areas in the paddock, tableware made of PLA was used, a plant-based polymer that can be disposed of in composting and anaerobic digestion recycling plants along with food leftovers and thus transformed into compost, providing a major contribution to reducing the production of mixed waste and the emission of greenhouse gases.
> Adding a few questions about sustainability among the questions of the "Treasure Hunt" The "Treasure Hunt" was an activity offered to all participants at the event, to test their knowledge of the Ducati world with a series of tests and quizzes. The activity was also an opportunity to raise awareness of sorted waste, which was the subject of one of the questions.

RAISING ROAD SAFETY AWARENESSOffering maximum safety to motorcyclists is one of Ducati's commitments. It is a commitment that is dealt with by acting on several fronts: through public policy, collaborating with national and international associations, through the spread of information, including the organisation of safe riding courses during events like WDW, and other outreach activities. No less important is the company's commitment to technology, in terms of both active and passive safety by equipping the bike with increasingly advanced technological systems. Also worthy of note is the role of technical clothing, with increasingly advanced protectors and materials that withstand impact and abrasions.
> Safe riding courses taught by professional instructors During the event safe riding and sport riding courses were made available to participants, aimed at teaching how to maintain better control of the bike even in extreme situations.
> "#GUARDAAVANTI" (LOOKAHEAD) project, in partnership with Tim and Milestone, to raise awareness about the dangers of riding while distracted through a virtual simulation Over the years Ducati has undertaken practical initiatives to raise awareness about the dangers of careless driving, like the #guardaavanti (#lookahead) campaign launched by TIM and Ducati to raise awareness about the use of cell phones while riding. The initiative, also present at the WDW 2016, is dedicated to motorcyclists and motorists seeking to promote good practices whether driving a car or riding a motorcycle.
> Sharing good riding practices during outside tours Before the departures of the WDW Tours and test rides outside the circuit, all participants were involved in an orientation held by the guides to illustrate simple good driving practices so that all could have safe fun on their bikes, while also respecting the environment.

5. RESULTS ACHIEVED
6. FUTURE OBJECTIVES
After the important results achieved by the 2016 edition of World Ducati Week, Ducati will continue to pursue a sustainable approach in the realisation of its events, focusing on continuous improvement. For this reason, the analysis of the results achieved has informed the objectives that Ducati intends to pursue in the next edition.
First of all is that of communication, aiming to increase the public's awareness of being a part of an event organised with a focus on sustainability, thus seeking even stronger involvement of the primary stakeholder - the public itself - in the event's success.
Additional objectives will be to improve and strengthen the management of the event's waste, especially considering both the larger public and the increased surface area used, to propose new activities but also to strengthen the already close collaboration with local communities in promoting the area, an integral part of Ducati's history.
