CARY BASKETBALL2011 – 12

A Brand New Day

2010 – 2011 was a special year

A longtime assistant coach returned to the sidelines

A senior class grew up from when they were freshmen

The team accomplished much …

Fifteen Overall Wins(the most wins since the 2006 – 07 season)

Ten Conference Wins

(The most since the 2005 – 06 season)

Second Place in the Tri-Nine conference

(The highest finish since the 2005 – 06 season)

Third Place in the Glaxo Tournament

(Highest X-Mas tourney finish since 2006 – 07)

Second Round in the State Play-offs

(First time since the 2005 – 06 season)

This great senior class helped lead the program back towards its

previous heights

But now they graduate

And they will be missed

But the cupboard is not bare…

The Imps return an Honorable Mention All-Conference player…

He led the team in rebounds!

He was the point man on the press!

He scored on the block!

With his right hand…

…and with his left!

He blocked shots

He could handle the ball…

And challenge defenders…

And he dunked!

Senior Stephen Bajorek!

Returning alongside Stephen is another 6’6” starter…

He led the team in blocks!

He could score inside, too…

Junior Stavian Allen

Returning Senior Point Guard…

Running the show…

Setting up teammates…

A pass-first point guard!

But strong enough to finish, too

Senior Luke Akinsola

Also returning is a top shooting guard…

A strong, fearless player…

He can score at the rim, too…

Senior David O’Donnell

Also returning is an athletic forward…

Senior Michael Campbell

A senior forward looks to rejoin the program after injury…

He’s a skilled power forward

Senior Daniel Freedle

Other seniors may want to tryout for the team next year, too!

It’s a Brand New Day

The JV team had an outstanding season, too, winning twelve

conference games.

The JV team was led by a good core of rising juniors…

An excellent scoring guard…

A tough, fierce forward…

A versatile guard/forward…

Other rising juniors played key roles, too…

And a smooth-playing freshman contributed greatly to the

success…

We’re starting up a brand new day

Which of these players (and other prospects) will make the varsity?

Despite this promise, we have a lot of question marks…

Several varsity players did not see a lot of minutes…

Moving up to varsity is a big challenge for JV players…

The varsity game is faster and more intense…

The game is more athletic…

…and more physical…

The games are more pressure packed…

The players are more skilled…

The teams are better coached and the defenses are tougher…

Players are bigger and stronger…

Making the varsity is no guarantee…

All of our players have to get better!

We have to get stronger!

We have to improve our ball-handling…

And our triple threat…

We have to improve our shot and become more consistent

shooters…

Which players will turn their weaknesses into strengths?

Which players will improve the most in the off-season?

The season is when teams improve.

The off-season is when individuals improve.

Which players will expand their games the most?

Which players will be the most deserving?

It’s a Brand New Day!

And so it begins this off-season…

Coach Carey and Coach Smith open the weight room each day at 3:30 (after the football players leave)

until 4:45

This is a great opportunity to increase your strength

I will be putting together a skill-development workout

schedule this Spring

Sign up after the meeting if interested!

This is a great opportunity to work with me and further develop your

skill set

We will be attending team camp this summer

A decision will be made later as to what camp we will attend

Summer practices begin Monday, June 13

It’s a Brand New Day!

“With any great team, you have a core of guys that push themselves and everyone around them to be

better.”

Who will form our core?

Who will join them to work hard and build on last year’s success?
