Student-Led Conferences

a presentation for students and parents

Student-Led ConferencesA closer look…

Student-Led Conferences

• This year, instead of doing our traditional “arena conferencing” on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, will be doing “Student-Led Conferences”

• One of our seventh grade teams (Team Bold) did them last year as a trial, and we will now be doing them for all students.

What is student-led conferencing?

Students conduct

formal conferences

with their parents to

display their

schoolwork and

discuss their own

learning, goals, and

strategies for

meeting those goals.

Students take ownership of their learning. They demonstrate increased accountability for their progress. There is tremendous power in this.

Students learn to set goals and work towards them.

Student work becomes more focused.

Students have the opportunity to develop presentation skills.

You received the PowerPoint you will use on your KSD email from Mr. Schiechl this morning.

As you work on this, save it to your 2nd period teacher’s workspace on the S: drive. Instructions are on the PowerPoint template.

There will be checks every few weeks, and you will be referred to an SLC Tutorial if you are too far behind.
