Mr Lau JS & Mr Leong WY

Welcome Address by

Vice-Principal,

Promotion Criteria

Tentative

Subject

Combinations

for

2021

• Begin with the end in mind when deciding on the subject combinations to choose.

• Brief synopsis of each subject can be found in the Streaming Booklet which is given to every student.

• The subject combinations shown are the tentative. Actual subject options that will be offered will be confirmed in Term 4.

• Depending on the demand, not all the final subject combinations may be offered.

NOTE:

• Students who are given Pure Science combinations must pass all Pure Sciences at Sec 3. Otherwise, they will be asked to drop a pure science or switch to a combined science.

• There is also no triple science combination at JC.

• Students who are offered 8 subject combinations will need to stay back on some days after normal curriculum hours. They will also have fewer periods for EL, Math, A Math etc.

If I am unsuccessful in first choice subject

combination, how does it affect my chances of

getting the second choice?

FAQs

It does NOT affect your chances of getting into

your second choice. Streaming is based on

merit – the best students get streamed into their

choice of subject combination first.

I am interested in studying

Medicine. Is triple science

compulsory?

• To be eligible for Medicine, candidates must

have done Chemistry at ‘H2’ level and either

Biology or Physics in addition to Chemistry.

The ‘triple science’ combination is no

longer required for Medicine, and

candidates who present the ‘triple science’

have no advantage in the admissions

process.

I am interested in studying an Engineering

Course in the University. Is Physics

compulsory?

Physics is important in all engineering

programs.

I am interested in studying a life

science course in the Polytechnic.

Is Biology compulsory?

Any Science subject will do.
