My name is Stefano Robol, and I’m from Rovereto, in the province of Trento, Italy. Rovereto is a city with an illustrious musical culture. It’s where Luigi Mozzani, the great guitarist/composer, opened a school of stringed instrument construction. I worked as a carpenter specialized in cabinet making for 28 years until one day my sister-in-law asked me to make her a guitar. I didn’t want to, because I knew it is very hard to get good sound out of a music instrument. But she really insisted, so in the end, I did it. It was my first guitar, which I still have. It came out fairly well, but above all it triggered a great passion inside me. That was in 2004. Since then, I’ve put all my time and energy into building better and better instruments, trying to improve their qualities of timbre, power, tone and comfort. I’m pleased with the work I’ve done so far, but it always seems to happen that every time I finish a guitar, I immediately see how the next one could be. I do this work with great passion. I like choosing the sounding boards myself, when I spend the whole day going through enormous stacks of boards, and leave in the evening with only 3 or 4 of them in hand. I do this two or three times a year, and then I let the boards age in my storehouse for a number of years. I decide how to make my guitars one-by-one because each board has a different weight and elasticity. I ha ve to know, I have to feel with my fingers how to get the most from the wood, so I never make a guitar that’s the same as another. That’s a quality of the instrument. Each one is unique and destined for a unique person, and there’s no other one like it. I build classic, flamenco and acoustic guitars. I devote my time to these types, even though I sometimes take special orders, such as for 10-strings. I’m going to keep making guitars as long as I can. Music connects the peoples in the world with a universal language. I like to think I’ve contributed to this in my own little way.

The soundhole rosette is not needed for the tonewood, but so the eye is satisfied.

The side are folded by hand, and put to rest in a mold

For an excellent sound, tonewood and sustain is very important the thickness of soundboard and the brace. For this each spruce is evaluated individually

I build my bridges in walnut. It’s a wood very light.The vibration goes very well.

The neck can be spanish cedar, mahogany or okumè.Often put a reinforced carbon but it depends on the project.

The soundboard is always finish in shellak, the rest in polyurethane.So the soundboard is light and free to vibrate; the back and side and the neck are more resistant.I make classical guitars, flamenco guitars and steelstrings.
