Proper Hand Washing

1. Turn on faucet to comfortable water temperature2. Remove jewelry (including watches), wet hands,

apply liquid soap & lather3. Rub (use FRICTION) for 15-30 seconds making sure

to get wrists, each finger, fingertips/cuticles, thumbs & back of hands

4. Rinse with fingertips pointing down5. Dry with paper towel6. Turn of faucet with clean paper towel

GlovesProtection for you and client

Wash hands before and after using gloves

Be careful of jewelry that may tear gloves

Not sterile

Avoiding needle sticksDo not recap needles.

Ensure area around you is clean. No needles laying around.

When using needles, have area ready. Including appropriate equipment (sharps container,

etc.). Nothing that will cause jerky movements or surprises.

Bloodborne Pathogens

Blood or body fluid containing blood that holds a virus

Exposure Occurs when blood or body fluid containing blood is

splashed or comes into contact with eyes, mouth or under skin

Could occur from bite, needle stick, splash

What to do if Exposed?

Wash or flush area immediately for at least 15 minutes

Call CLA Report workplace exposure, accident or injury (within 1 business day)

Business hours – HR (Stacy x1243) After hours or weekends – on-call number & leave message for HR

Follow up with medical treatment as advised
