DESCRIPTION

The SMS Archives only has one complete copy of the 1934-35 St. Margaret's School Magazine. It was recently donated by the family of the late Yvonne (nee Lowden) Adams (class of 37). The 1934-35 St. Margaret's School Magazine was the last SMS Magazine published. What started out as a monthly publication in March 1911 had quickly changed to once per term (Christmas, Easter, Summer) and then an annual publication. It ceased publication during the First World War (1914-15 to 1919-20), but returned for the 1920-21 school year. Originally printed by printing companies (Victoria Printing and Publishing Company, then Diggon’s Printing, and finally Colonist Presses), by 1933 it was being mimeographed (Newton Advertising Agency). The typeface of the 1934 and 1935 issues suggest they were also mimeographed, likely a reflection of the tough economic times during the Great Depression (1929-1939).
