I don’t tweet, and I have no plans to start a Twitter account. If I did, however, here are a few of my thoughts, some serious, some pastoral and some silly. ***Parishioners have expressed frustration with us priests, about not seeing us on Sundays. I feel frustrated too. Each of the
four of us priests is only in a church once every four weeks. ***Here’s our rotation: Week 1, three Masses at St. Colman; week 2, two at St. John Fisher and one at St. Jude; week 3, two at St. Maurice and one at Good Shepherd; week 4, Madonna, Word of God and Sacred Heart. ***I try to give Father Daniel Adjei one Mass every weekend, so that all parishioners see him. This also gives a priest only two Masses on a weekend. ***Big word of thanks to the committee members who planned the Ghana Night. Wonderful liturgy, great food. Generous folks from all parishes have contributed over $34,000. Wow! ***The total amount raised toward building Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Ghana is over $100,000. Soon it will be completed. ***Father Daniel, smiling and dancing priest, everybody loves you! ***Let parishioners know that Father Carl Gentile will again celebrate the 6:00 p.m. Mass on Christmas Eve in St. John Fisher Church. ***Be sure to share the schedule of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses with your family and neighbors. We welcome everyone to our celebration of the Birth of Jesus our Savior. ***This has been the most frustrating and roller coaster year for the Steelers in 30 years. Tough on us fans, tough on the players too. ***Don’t talk politics over your Christmas dinner. Unless you never want to see your in-laws again. …Then again???... ***Making plans for next year? Here are my three wild and crazy hopes: Ride the Zamboni at a Penguins game. See the city of Pittsburgh from the Goodyear blimp. Be the color commentator for an NFL game. ***Or, would you believe, visit the three continents I’ve never set foot on, Africa, Australia and Antarctica.
***If we are privileged on following through with the process of making our “eight great churches of the East” into one new parish next year, this will be the third time for me. ***I helped merge Nativity of Our Lord and Annunciation parishes into Incarnation of the Lord Parish on the North Side of Pittsburgh in 1993. ***And I helped merge Madonna of Jerusalem, St. John Cantius and St. Mary parishes into St. Juan Diego parish in Sharpsburg in 2009. ***What will be our new parish’s name? Only Bishop Zubik knows, and will share with us in May. ***As I continue to get familiar with the “eight great churches of the East” I was surprised to learn that the adoration chapel in St. Maurice Church is dedicated to Archbishop Coleman Carroll, who was the parish’s pastor from 1949 to 1951. ***Archbishop Carroll, a native of Pittsburgh, was the first bishop, and later first archbishop, of the diocese of Miami, Florida. He died in 1977. ***And I was pleased to learn that the image of Christ’s crucifixion hanging on the back wall of St. Maurice Church over the tabernacle was painted by the grandmother of Father Nick Vaskov, a priest of our diocese. ***Father Nick is now the administrator of the new “Pittsburgh shrines” grouping. He was baptized in St. Maurice Church. ***A great big thanks to the 55 parishioners who joined Deacon Herb Riley and his wife Cheryl for “Amen to Action” at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on Friday after Thanksgiving. ***Some 5,000 Christians packed over 1,000,000 meals for shelters and food banks—in less than three hours! How’s that for organization! ***Talk about, “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.” ***Bishop Zubik sent his regards via video, as he was in Rome visiting Pope Francis. ***Have you seen the new stained-glass windows in St. John Fisher church, to replace those destroyed by fire? Lovely. And it only took 16 months to replace them. ***Congratulations to our four candidates for reception into full communion through the R.C.I.A., who were ceremonially welcomed last Sunday. We pray daily for more to hear the call of Jesus inviting them to discipleship through our Catholic Church. ***The older I get the slower I drive, and the more I use my turn signal.

ADVENT BIBLE STUDY LITTLE ROCK SCRIPTURE STUDY The Infancy Narratives of Jesus—Sundays, December 1 through
December 22, 11:30—1:00 pm, St. Colman Church. Light lunch
provided. Cost is $15.00/Study Set. Both the theme and the short
length of this study (4 sessions) make it ideal for Advent study. It
focuses on the opening chapters of Matthew and Luke, the only gospels which
describe the wondrous events surrounding the birth of the Messiah. This study
also explores the many significant connections these two gospels make between
the Old Testament and the birth of the Savior. Rich insights will be made as these
two gospels are opened to reveal the special contribution each makes to our
understanding of Jesus’ nativity. Deepen your longing for the Messiah’s coming
again and ask God to be Emmanuel, “God with us.” More information call Sue
Buchholz at 412-824-5163.

ST. COLMAN An age appropriate reflection of the Gospel of the day with occasional hands on activity, games, and song. This service is provided Sundays at 10:00 a.m. Mass for children 4-8 years of age. Children are excused after the opening prayer and return during the offertory. We ask that a parent stand when they are returning so they can find you.
THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU! is an initiative of the Diocese of
Pittsburgh to encourage Catholics to avail themselves of the
Sacrament of Reconciliation. Confession is a wonderful
opportunity to set aside our sinful ways and to draw closer to
our Lord. Here in our grouping, we will offer confessions
Wed., Dec. 11, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 1600
Brinton Rd., Braddock Hills, PA 15221; and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at
St Maurice Church, 2001 Ardmore Blvd., Forest Hills, PA 15221. If you
have been reluctant to come to the sacrament, have been away for some
time or just found it difficult to get to a Saturday afternoon confession
time, this is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with Christ and His
Church.
Are you searching for more? discovering Christ...Join us starting in February 2020
Have you noticed the simple, intriguing notes in the
bulletins over the past few weeks? One of our notes
was, "Life is a journey. Where are you headed?" These
notes were all placed to peak your interest and entice
you to find out more about your faith and your personal
relationship with Christ. Our grouping has embarked on a wonderful
journey of faith and we'd like you all to be a part of it! We will be bringing
ChristLIfe, a dynamic, Catholic, evangelical interactive series to our
grouping starting in February 2020! ChristLife was designed for
participants to refocus their faith life and gain a deeper, closer and more
personal relationship with God. Over seven weeks, we hope to help our
participants to learn to love God, our neighbor and ourselves in a whole
new way! Please continue to read the bulletin for more information on
how YOU can take part in this transformative series, too! God wants you
to join us.... please listen to His call!

Parish Announcements
ST. COLMAN Many neighborhoods in our surrounding areas are
feeling the urgency for providing for their families at
this difficult time. We have always come together to
provide a gift for a needy child. We are asking that you
please take a name tag from the tree and purchase a
gift for a needy child. Please take a tag and sign your
name and phone number next to the child's name and
tag number in the book. All gifts must be returned to
the church office by December 13. Please be sure to
attach the tag to the gift. Thank you!
ST. JOHN FISHER The Christmas Giving Tree at Saint John Fisher starts
this weekend, November 16/17 and will finish up on
December 7/8. Gift requests are helping the children
and youth at Wilkins Primary, John Heinz Children’s
Center and Auberle. The project we are helping with at
Auberle is the Family Emergency Shelter. All gifts are to
be wrapped with the tag on the outside for
identification. You may also donate a $25 gift card to
Walmart or Target to Auberle. These gift requests
should also be approximately $25. Any questions
please contact Anne Wuenschel at 412-244-0343.
ST. JUDE THE APOSTLE Help us bring the warmth and joy of the holidays to
children and families in need! The Angel Tree is up!
Again this year, we will be working with The Alliance
for Infants and Toddlers Early Intervention Program.
Here is how it works: Please purchase a NEW gift for a
boy or girl, from birth to 3 years old, (toys, games,
books, winter apparel, gift cards), and place your
unwrapped gift under the tree. There are no tags on
the tree this year. The gifts need to be brought in no
later than December 9. If you have any questions,
please call the church office. Help us bring the warmth
and joy of the holidays to children and families in need!
Thank you in advance for your continued support and
generosity!

NEW DEEP GROUP WITH FATHER MOHLER—
MONDAYS: Put out into the deep. These words of
Jesus to Peter (Luke 5:4) were beloved by St. John Paul
II. All of us are called to grow deeper in our faith.
DEEP is also an acronym for how to live our life of
faith: Discipleship, Evangelization, Eucharist, and
Prayer. Father Mohler wants to host a group for
anyone interested in looking for new ways to grow
deeper in any of these aspects of following Jesus.
There will be an opportunity for discussion. Meetings
twice a month in the St. Maurice chapel, 6 pm prior to
the 7 pm Mass. Next meeting is Dec. 16. No RSVP is
required. For more information contact
frmohler@outlook.com or call 412-271-5666.
BIBLE STUDY 216
Our Parish grouping is beginning a Bible Study,
Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. in the Rectory Meeting
Room, at St. John Fisher from 7-8:15 p.m. Bibles are
available. Call the Parish Office, St. John Fisher at 412-
241-4722 to pre-register. Father Martin is the
Instructor.
As you are decorating your Christmas
Tree this year, say this beautiful
prayer with you family: “God of all
creation, as we gather around this
tree, we ask your blessing upon us.
(Have a family member turn the lights on the tree at this
time.) May your light surround us, and show us the way
to love and serve you throughout this Christmas season.
May all who gather here with us, enjoy the beauty of this
tree, the warmth of laughter and the gift of friendship.
We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.”

The choir will sing before and during the 6:00 pm Mass on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2019. There will be three rehearsals: Sunday, Dec. 8, 15, 22, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Maurice. Please encourage your child to participate! We would like the music of this choir to be our young people’s gift to Christ on His birthday.
Please fill in the following and return in the collection basket, church office, or mail today. We must have an accurate count of children participating in the choir to have materials adequately prepared.
