Our St. Paul Parish and School
Capital Campaign
continues with pledges coming in from many parishioners. We are grateful to all who have been able to make a pledge. We are also grateful to those who have considered the Campaign but prayerfully decided their personal financial situation does not allow them to make a pledge at this time. We
count on their prayers and hope in
future years they may be able to help.
For those who have not yet decided on a pledge or a gift, please give some thought
this week to what you may be able to do to assist your parish community in meeting this
responsibility to care for our school building. There are additional pledge/gift envelopes in the back of the church if you need an additional or a replacement. There are also a few packets with the explanatory
booklets and brochures if you did not receive one in the mail.
Any questions about the Campaign can be directed to St. Paul School (304-748-5225,
or to our Pastor, Fr. Larry Dorsch (304-748-6710).

Adult Bible Study There will be no Tuesday evening Bible Study until
Fr. Larry returns from his African trip on July 16.
Dear Parishioners:
By today, Fr. Matt and I should be back in Nairobi after our real safari in the Masai Mara Wildlife Refuge. Hopefully, we have seen elephants and hippos and wild beasts in their native wild habitat and survived the bumpy roads to get to them. Back in the capital of Kenya for just the night, we have an early morning flight all the way across the breath of Africa, east to west. We are going to Ghana to meet another young man who was so good to me when I was in Kenya back in 2001. Peter Nbwodo was a seminarian at the time who showed me all around Nairobi on the back of his bicycle! He subsequently left the seminary and returned home. I helped him a bit financially
and he has built up a successful business, married a beautiful Ghanian woman and the two of them have three sons. Peter has invited us to visit and so we will get to see the capital of Ghana, Acura, for a couple of days. We will be returning to New York on Thursday. Jambo! - Fr. Larry
Laudato Si: On Care for our Common Home On Care for Our Common Home (Laudato Si') is the new appeal from Pope Francis ad-dressed to "every person living on this planet" for an inclusive dialogue about how we
are shaping the future of our planet. Pope Francis calls the Church and the world to acknowledge the urgency of our environmental challenges and to join him in embarking
on a new path. This encyclical is written with both hope and resolve, looking to our common future with candor and humility.
Statement on the Occasion of the Promulgation of Laudato Si’
by Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz Drawing extensively from the teaching of his predecessors, the Pope teaches that care for the things of the earth is necessarily bound together with our care of one another,
especially the poor. This interdependency extends from the deep respect due every human person to all living beings and to the earth where we make our home. “Each
creature has its own purpose…and the entire material universe speaks of God’s love.” The Pope uses the term “integral ecology” to draw our attention to a rich treasury of
thought that people of faith bring with them to conversations about the human person and our environment. He states, “We must regain the conviction that we need one another, that we have a shared responsibility for others and the world, and that being good and decent
are worth it.”
