• Description - Explore another powerful alternative for report writing. SQL Server Reporting Services provides a full range of ready-to-use tools and services to help you create, deploy, and manage reports for VISUAL Enterprise. Reports are viewed using a web based server that allows users to optionally export data to Excel, PDF and other formats. Report Server supports role based security and has a built-in scheduling system to automatically generate reports. You will learn how to create and deploy reports using SQL Server Business Intelligence Studio.

•Referred to as SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services)
•SSRS is a server-based reporting platform that provides comprehensive reporting functionality for a variety of data sources.
•SSRS includes a complete set of tools for you to create, manage, and deliver reports.
•SSRS tools work within the Microsoft Visual Studio environment and are fully integrated with SQL Server tools and components.
What is SQL Server Reporting Services?
➢Installed as a component to SQL Server 2005, 2008, 2008R2, and 2012
➢Runs as a separate service on the SQL Server
➢Integrates web front end for users to access reports
➢Setup is essentially a simple configuration using the Reporting Services Configuration Manager accessed from start menu
Setup and Configuration
•Access the report designer from Visual Studio
• Added to existing Visual Studio install (if already installed)
How To Create Reports
• Another option is SQL Server Report Builder• Free utility that requires a separate install
•Deploy from Visual Studio Report Designer directly to the web server
•Right-click report and choose Deploy
How To Deploy Reports
•Connect to your Reports URL
•Typically http://<servername>/Reports
How To Access Reports
• Incorporate a link to Visual using a VMX file
•VMX stands for Visual Manufacturing Extension
•Allows user to click on a link from the SSRS report and launch a specific Visual module pre-loaded with a specific Document based on the ID from the report (i.e. Part ID)
•Custom shared code setup as a small Web service in IIS
•Web link to service added to field in SSRS report designer
Linking To Visual
•Report level security linked to Active Directory Users and Groups
•Data connection level security linked to SQL Security
•Can save login credentials so user not prompted at runtime
•Or, force data connection credentials to be entered

•Subscriptions can be applied to individual reports
•Delivery can be done through email with attachment of the report and/or a link to the web version
•Alert can be done as part of a single schedule or part of shared schedules for distribution of multiple reports
