Crucial to our impact protection products arerubber fibres of a particular strength and lengthwhich guarantee high resilience and durability.Because the fibres interlock during the mixingprocess and through subsequent compressionform a dense elastic body with excellentresistance to any kind of mechanical influences. This is why our impact protection productsboast outstanding stability.
EPDM is synthetic rubber. It has the samefunctional characteristics as rubber-basedgranules but is through coloured. We use EPDMgranules as decorative surfaces for our impactprotection and elastic flooring. Our rangecomprises 25 colours and their combinations.
The lower-price products within our impactprotection range are manufactured from rubbergranules. These granules are also used bymost other suppliers of similar products.

The materials
The materials from which we manufactureour safety surfacing and elastic products aresubject to constant quality monitoring. Thebasic materials used in the majority of ourproducts are rubber granules or fibres. In ourfactory in Bad Berleburg these rubber particlesare bonded using the bonding agent poly-urethane, compacted and then compressed
into the familiar Regupol tiles and tracks. Thequality of the raw materials and purity of theirelemental components, the special ratio of therubber to the bonding agent, combined withthe degree of compacting and subsequentcompression are all significant factors whichdictate the quality of the end product. Onlymany years of experience guarantee the
requisite properties that put our products atthe top end of the quality scale of comparableproducts manufactured by other suppliers. Inour impact protection products this quality isreflected above all in their reliable impactprotection values, their resilience and theirdurability.

Tested SafetyThe standard DIN EN 1177 defines theprocedure for verifying the impact protectionproperties of a floor and stipulates the limitup to which no serious injuries might beexpected upon impact. Regupol impact pro-tection floors are tested in accordance withthese standards and meet their requirements.
The value that determines the risk of injuryis termed the Head Injury Criterion (HIC). Itmust not exceed 1,000. The impact protectionvalues of our Regupol impact protection tilesare certified according to TÜV safety standards. In addition our laboratory carries out regularchecks to ensure that the quality remains
consistent. At the same time we make surethat our laboratory tests exceed the requiredvalues so that potential anomalies don’t leadto problems on-site.A point to note: BSW has one of the mostmodern test facilities in the world.

Which is the rightsafety surface?
Playground safety surfaces made from rubberare a versatile – and in the long-term cost-effective – alternative to loose fill surfaces ofsand, mulch, or bark chippings. The economicviability of Regupol safety surfaces in long-term comparison with loose fill materials canbe proven if over and above the costs of the
initial purchase and installation, one alsoconsiders the ongoing costs for maintenanceand upkeep. Because over a period of tenyears the expensive maintenance and renewalmeasures required for loose fill materialsgenerate costs up to two times higher thanRegupol impact protection. Even after four
years the initial cost advantage of sand, forinstance, has been exhausted, and thereafterthe costs increase significantly. The followingcomparison is based on the assumption thatthe sand is properly cleaned and maintained.

The diagram shows the long-term development of costs of Regupol safety flooring compared with sand. By year four thecost of sand exceeds that of Regupol. After ten years the cost has risen to almost double. This is an example calculationthat only gives a guideline indication. The individual prices are subject to fluctuation.

The advantages of Regupolimpact protection and elasticproducts
Independently tested and certified impact protection valuesguarantee the required safety of the whole play area, evenin sensitive places. Sand or mulch does not get scuffed
away during play. The structure of the raw material ofRegupol reduces the risk of slipping, even on dampsurfaces.
Reliable even impact protection, slip resistance
Reasonably priced, economical
Prices graduated according to types of material (rubberfibres, rubber granules, EPDM granules) allow the customerto choose the right quality for every job. In the long-term
Regupol impact protection is up to 50 % cheaper incomparison with loose fill materials.
Long-lasting, hard-wearing, weatherproof
You can confidently assume a lifetime of ten years for ourimpact protection and elastic products, frequently theyperform their function for even longer – something hardlyany other impact protection material can guarantee.
Because Regupol impact protection is extremely hardwearingand resistant to mechanical impact. Plus Regupol impactprotection is weatherproof: it is completely impervious tomoisture and sunlight, heat or frost.
Hygienic, low on maintenance, easy to clean
Dirt and rubbish remain clearly visible on Regupol safetysurfaces and there’s no chance of it getting buried. Theycan be cleaned quickly and easily, and there’s no scopefor unpleasant surprises. Loose-fill material won’t get trailed
across to other areas or indoors, and you won’t end upwith sand in shoes or pockets. Regupol safety surfacesare easy to sweep up with a broom, and they appreciatean occasional clean with a pressure washer.
Sound absorbing
It is generally the use of small sports pitches with hardsurfaces such as asphalt and concrete that time and againlead to noise disturbance. The elastic Regupol surfaces
provide effective help against this. They effectively deadennoise from balls, protect joints and bones because of theirelasticity and still allow the ball to rebound powerfully.
Page

Water permeable, quick drying
Even after a heavy downpour it’s not long before childrencan go out to play again on Regupol impact protection andelastic surfaces. This is due to the material’s good water
permeability and its quick drying properties. Drainagechannels on the bottom of the tiles enable water to drainaway quickly.
Versatile designs and applications
Versatility with regard to applications and designs setsRegupol impact protection apart. Whether safety surfaceson playgrounds, small sports pitches for football orstreetball, whether outside or indoor halls. We have the
right solution for every need and can offer 25 colours andtheir combinations. This allows you to make a designstatement or match a surface to its surroundings.
Environmentally friendly
Our products are mainly manufactured from rubber, donot seal the ground, pose no health risks, and at the end
of their life can be recycled.
Quick laying, quick removal
Regupol impact protection and elastic floors are quick andeasy to lay. Pushfit fittings and adhesive bonding createreliable and durable solidity. If at any stage you decide
that you don’t need the surface any more, the Regupoltiles and moulded parts are easy to remove.
Comprehensive pre- and aftersales service
Personal consultation, individual production of materialsamples, special solutions, maintenance and extensions,
and last but not least prompt and reliable delivery, as wellas lots of other services, are all in a day’s work.

Regupol Impactprotection tile FX
The Regupol impact protection tile FX, inredbrown, is the best-selling product in BSW’simpact protection range. Universally usable, reliable and resilient, Regupol FX is suitablefor fall heights up to three metres. Due to itsunique structure of rubber fibres and duallayer construction, Regupol FX guarantees the
highest possible safety standard and longestlifetime of all the impact protection products. The coloured wear layer is manufactured fromhighly compacted rubber fibres, ensuringdurability, slip-resistance and even, reliableforce absorption. The underlying elastic layerguarantees the exact impact protection values
as the softer material possesses the requiredelasticity. Very few suppliers offer this duallayer construction, which involves an expensiveproduction process. It is a definitive qualitycharacteristic.
There are drainage channels on the underside ofour impact protection and elastic tiles.

Regupol Impactprotection tile FXG
Regupol FXG is the lower cost version of ourimpact protection tiles. With reliable impactprotection properties, the material compositionis simpler. As it is made from rubber granulesand constructed in one layer, it does not havethe same toughness or resilience as our
Regupol FX tiles. However its durability willstand up to normal stress. It has alreadyproved itself time and again. Regupol FXG isa successful compromise between durabilityand cost efficiency. The maximum fall heightof Regupol FXG is two metres. Greater fall
heights with single-layer tiles can only beachieved if you compromise on durability.

Shapes and motifs
Are colours on their own not enough? We alsooffer you the possibility of giving your safetyflooring a unique, individual design with
geometric or figurative motifs. In order tocreate 3D effects, Playfix safety flooring canalso be installed over embankments, hills
and valleys. Application is possible to slopesof up to 45°. Here are a few examples.
Page
19
Quality
The influence of UV irradiation can cause a discolouring of themicrometre thin adhesive layer on the top of diverse solid-colouredEPDM granulates. This effect may give for example blue EPDM granulate a greenish lookor light grey EPDM granulate can discolour brownish. As a result thediscoloured adhesive layer almost completely wears off in the courseof the first weeks or months in case of a normal use.
In order to avoid this temporary discolouring it is possible to use analmost complete UV-resistant adhesive. This method prevents theadhesive layer nearly complete from discolouring and the colours shine“crystal clear”. We recommend the utilisation of UV-resistant adhesivefor the application of the following EPDM colours:blue, violet, orange, yellow, eggshell, pearl white, light grey, etc.
These cross section pictures show an essential difference. While the EPDM top layer in Playfix safety flooring (left picture) is on average 10 mmthick, the top layer in safety flooring systems by other manufacturers (right picture) is only about half as thick. This is one of the essentialadvantages of Playfix: the thick, highly compacted top layer by Playfix warrants a far longer service life and durability.

Playfix Indoor
Indoor play areas are becoming increasinglypopular. However, conventional safety flooringis designed for outdoor surfaces, and theirporous surface structure is not suitable forindoor cleaning methods. With Playfix IndoorBSW has developed a floor covering that fulfils
all impact protection requirements and alsohas a homogeneous, easy-to-clean wear layer.Playfix Indoor consists of soft sheets, whichare sealed with a liquid, quick hardening PURsurface. As the surface was developed on thebasis of our flooring range for sports hall floors,
it is extremely robust and durable, besidesbeing slip resistant and available in a widerange of colours. It is easy to add writing, linesand symbols using our equally durable PURpaint.
Material: Wear layer hardened colouredpolyurethane applied in liquid state, elasticlayer PUR-bonded rubber granulate
Structure: multi-layer construction from elasticlayer, fabric mesh, sealant and colour finish, wear layer sealed and seamless
Colours: 17 colours
Applications: on all indoor play areas and allinterior surfaces where there is increased riskof injury from falling.
Total thickness: 10-110 mm
Playfix Indoor is the perfect complement toour Regugym point- and combi-elastic floorsurfaces for halls, because both kinds offlooring have the same wear layer, so if youselect the same colour they are virtuallyindistinguishable from each other. This givesyou the flexibility to floor multifunctional hallsin a uniform design, despite the floor surfaceshaving different functions. Ask us about ourhall floors and we’ll be happy to advise you.

Playfix Indoor – the coloursBesides being functional, the priority for interiorfloor coverings is to look good. Playfix Indoorgives you a choice of 17 colours. Our techni-cians can also lay multi-coloured surfaces.
The colour quality of Playfix Indoor remainsstable over a long period of time and is notaffected by heavy use or the effects of sunlight. However should your floor surface need
renovation after many years’ service, we canreplace the wear layer at a reasonable pricewithout having to remove the whole flooringsystem.

RegupolElastic tile EL
Regupol EL is the large format elastic tile.Regupol EL combines a high quality appearancewith reliable elasticity and phenomenaldurability. Besides its appearance its funda-mental advantage is that it can be laid on all
level surfaces without the need to make aspecial base layer first. The surface is easy toclean. The Regupol EL elastic tile is primarilydesigned for use under swings and slide run-offs, preventing the formation of depressions
that increase the risk of accidents and attractan accumulation of dirt. However you canalso use them to create large elastic surfaces, both inside and out.

The substructure should be constructed to befrost-stable in accordance with local practice. This involves digging out the area to therequired depth, taking into account theinstallation depth of the Regupol impactprotection or elastic tiles.
It is important to ensure good drainage.
The frost-stable base should consist of a coarseaggregate with a grain size of 0 to 35 mm,minimum thickness 30 cm, which should beoverlaid with a layer of fine aggregate with a
grain size between 0 and 3 mm or 0 and 7mm, thickness approx. 5 cm. The aggregatelayers must be firmly compacted.
Concrete or asphalt surfaces are subject tolocal regulations.
Installation instructions forimpact protection and elastic tiles
The base layers
Laying the tiles
Joining the tiles to each other
Regupol impact protection and elastic tilescan be joined to one another by means ofdowels and glued if required. In most casesthe use of dowels will be sufficient, reducingthe time needed for installation. The tiles mustbe stuck one by one to the bound base layer. This prevents deliberate levering out anddisplacement of the tiles.
Edge restraints
Before laying the tiles on an unbound baselayer an edge should made to two sides of thearea (at a corner) in order to facilitate seamlessand precise positioning of the tiles. TheRegupol edge restraints can be used for thispurpose (page 26).
Laying the tiles
You should begin laying the tiles in the cornerbordered by the edge restraints. First lay arow of tiles from this corner to the oppositeend, connecting them with dowels and gluingif necessary. Now lay the other tiles.

Hints for laying
Laying edge to edge
As you lay the tiles make sure that they areperfectly aligned. There should be as littlespace as possible between the tiles, so it isrecommended that you apply strong horizontalpressure as you position each tile. This willprevent subsequent gaps from developing, asthe material may shrink over time.
Anti-stumble edging
When surrounding a tiled area with anti-stumble safety edges, they must be glued tothe tiles. This gives added strength. Theinstallation of anti-stumble edging is identicalto that of tiles.
Cutting the tiles
Cut the tiles using a good pendulum jigsaw(coarse wood saw blade or wave blade). Thisalso applies to fittings at the base of equipment, conduit inlets, other floor surfaces etc. Thefittings should be fixed using adhesive.
Adhesion to a bound surface
The adhesive required for gluing the tiles toa cemented base layer is available from BSW.It is a two-component PU adhesive. The tilesshould be glued to the bound surface at thenine glue spots on the underside of the tile. You must ensure that the base is dry andclean, the outside temperature must be atleast 10 ºC. Glue coverage: approx. 1 kg/m2,depending upon the base course.
Laying on an unbound surface
When laying on an unbound surface, the tilescan be glued together using a single-componentPU mastic besides connecting with dowels. The single-component adhesive is also availablefrom BSW. This adhesive has the advantagethat it retains a certain degree of elasticitybetween the gaps, which accommodates theimpact protection properties of the tiles. Youshould observe the above diagram whenapplying the adhesive. The process can becarried out between outside temperatures of+5 and +35 ºC. One cartridge is sufficientfor approx. 4 m2. The bead diameter of themastic adhesive should be 5 – 7 mm.

The base layers
Laying the pavers
Laying on an unbound surface
Regupol pavers are laid like normal concretepaving stones. Their double T-shape resemblesthe Behaton concrete paving. The pavingslabs are laid hard up against each otherstarting from one corner, then compacted witha plate vibrator and the joints filled with sand.
Laying on a bound surface
Depending upon the application, the paverscan be laid on a concrete or asphalt base withan edge restraint in place either loose or using
adhesive. When laying the slabs you shouldensure that the underlying base is angled by1– 2% for optimum drainage.
Edge restraint
As with conventional paving slabs, edgerestraints are required. We recommend theelastic Regupol edge restraints (page 26),which resemble the Regupol pavers in qualityand appearance. To increase stability you canstick starters, half stones and whole stonesto the edge restraint.
Cutting the pavers
Cut the pavers using a good pendulum jigsaw(coarse wood saw blade or wave blade). Thisalso applies to fittings at the base of equipment, conduit inlets, other floor surfaces etc. Thefittings should be fixed by gluing.

Adhesion to a bound surface
The glue required for sticking the pavers to abound surface is available from BSW. It is atwo-component PU adhesive. To glue thestones to a bound surface the adhesive shouldbe applied to the underside of each stone inturn. The surface must be dry and clean andthe outside temperature at least 10 ºC. Gluecoverage: approx. 2 kg/m2 depending uponsurface.
Gluing onto an unbound surface
When laying pavers on an unbound surfaceyou can increase stability by gluing starters, halves and whole stones to the edge restraintsusing a one-component mastic adhesive. Thissingle-component adhesive is also availablefrom BSW. The process can be carried outbetween outside temperatures of +5 and+35 ºC. One cartridge is sufficient for approx.3 m2. The bead diameter of the masticadhesive should be 5 – 7 mm.
Laying in curves
When laying the pavers in a curve the stonesare not interlinked and half-stones are usedto create several narrow strips with gaps of avariable thickness. This procedure can befollowed for a radius from approximately eightmetres, where the thickness of the strip shouldnot exceed two normal stones and one half-stone (approx. 50 cm).
Curves with a radius of between four and eightmetres are laid in strips with two half-stones.

Playfix
Playfix Indoor
Preparing the surface
The surfaces required for Playfix are identicalto those for Regupol impact protection andelastic tiles (page 32). Playfix can be laid onboth bound and unbound surfaces. Careshould be taken to ensure that over a distanceof 4 m, the difference in level does not exceed4 mm. When laying Playfix on top of existingsurfaces, irregularities must be levelled outwith fine grit, asphalt or concrete.
Edge restraint
Before installing Playfix the surface should beenclosed by a restraint. We recommend theelastic Regupol edge restraints.
Installation
Both layers of Playfix - the lower impactprotection layer and the upper coloured wearlayer - are applied in a semi-fluid state in situonto the prepared area. This work can onlybe carried out by BSW or an authorised agentas installation requires experience andprofessional expertise.
Playfix EPDM IS
Preparing the surface
The surface for Playfix EPDM IS is the sameas Playfix. Particular attention must be paidto evening out irregularities.
Edge restraint
We recommend Regupol edge restraints. Withthin wear layers an edge restraint is notabsolutely necessary.
Installation
The elastic wear layer of Playfix EPDM IS isapplied in a semi-fluid state in situ onto theprepared area. This work can only be carriedout by BSW themselves or by an authorisedagent.
Preparing the surface
Playfix Indoor is only installed in inside areas. The prepared surface must be level and havea dry cement or asphalt screeded bed.Application on top of any other existing floorcovering must be assessed on an individual
basis. It is important to ensure that any surfaceused is moisture-proof, as bumps caused byrising moisture may otherwise form underneaththe waterproof polyurethane wear layer.
Installation
Installation of Playfix Indoor can also only becarried out by BSW themselves or by anauthorised agent, as the application of thefluid PUR layers requires specialist knowledge.

Installation
The Regupol edge restraints should be setfirmly into the concrete bed approximately 5cm deep to their actual height and perpendicularto the ground. If required the adjoining edgesof the restraints can be glued together using
a single-component PU adhesive. Then thedouble-sided concrete wedge is heaped upuntil the restraint protrudes from the concreteby approx. 10 cm. The concrete is compacted.
Regupol edge restraints can also be bent intoposition. To do this the bent moulding has tobe held using reinforced steel or wooden lathsuntil the concrete has set. Then the steel orlaths are removed.
