From our Chapter Directors
Greetings,
Merry Christmas! We hope this one is a great one for you and your family!
The Christmas Party will be on the 10th of December at Sticky Fingers in Summerville at 6PM.
This will also be our Gathering for the month of December also. Please contact George or Gloria
for tickets no later than December 5th. Cost is $23, includes beverage, tax and tip.
Also the last chance to buy tickets for the quilt which will be raffled off at the party.
We have raised $755 so far for ONE80PLACE.
We would like to thank Gloria & George for all the hard work putting together the Scavenger
Hunt. We hear that everyone that got to go had a great time. Because of dates being changed at
the last minute by me, we were unable to make it due to work.
I would like to thank Dave D. for getting us signed up for the Hanahan Christmas Parade which
will be on December 7th, meet at Hanahan High to line up at 8:30AM and decorate our rides.
Parade start is at 10AM.
I would also like to thank Mike M. for setting us up for the 28th Annual Edisto Christmas
Parade which will be on December 14th, KSU from Hardees, Ravenel, SC (Hwy 17) at 12 Noon to
ride down and have time to decorate our bikes.
I would ask that anyone that has input to please try to be at our December Team Meeting. We
have a lot of planning to do for 2020. Now that we kind of know what’s going on, we hope to
make things better with the new year.
Until the next one. Ride Safe, Ride Often, Ride Free.

Group Riding Tips
Safety is most important, so I feel that reviewing the following
16 Group Riding Tips (taken from some of the country’s foremost
motorcycle experts in a recent Wing World magazine} are worth
repeating to follow up from my last month’s article.
1. Organize the ride. This can be done informally in a parking lot, on a phone call or in a
meeting prior to the ride.
2. Ride your own ride. Riding in a group does not mean you surrender any decision making
when it comes to safety. Don’t go any faster than you feel comfortable going.
3. Consideration. When picking out the route and the stops you’ll make, consider the stamina
and needs of the group, the experience of all the riders and the limits of the motorcycles in the
group. Take adequate breaks along the way.
4. Communication on the ride. Make sure everyone knows the most common hand signals
used. The lead and drag bikes should have CB radios at a minimum.
5. Formation. Have your experienced riders as lead and drag bikes. Position less experienced
immediately behind the leader, allowing the front rider to adjust the pase if necessary.
6. Drag bike rider should have a cell phone to call for help if a motorcycle is disabled or has
been in an accident.
7. Keep together. The leader should only go as fast as the least experienced rider.
8. When riding, don’t fixate on the bike in front of you, but look well through the turn to where
you want to go.
9. If the group is riding faster than you feel comfortable, let the lead/drag know. You can drop
out to ride at your own pace. It’s all about fun and safety.
10. Make sure your bike is ready for the ride. Full fuel tank, empty bladder, bike maintenance
taken care of, etc. T-CLOCS.
11. Large group should be divided into smaller groups of five to seven bikes. Easier to navigate
through city streets, etc.
12. Use the 2 second rule between bikes as mentioned last month. Never ride side by side.
Once you pick a lane - stay in it!
13. As turns get sharper or visibility decreases, entering or exiting a highway, at tollbooths, or
on rough roads, move to a single file formation. (Continued on page 4)
4
14. Tighten the formation to side by side at intersections with red lights. Don’t dawdle when
the light turns green, get through the intersection quickly so everyone gets through safely.
15. We share the road with many other vehicles. It’s against the law to block an intersection or
attempt to have two ot three bikes go through an intersection together that is regulated by a
stop sign.
16. When parking, the lead bike should try to get the group off the roadway as quickly as
possible. Try to have pull through parking at your destination if possible. Make sure there is
ample parking for your size group. Park together if at all possible. When hitting the road
again, it’s easier to resume your position in the pack.
I know everyone has heard all this many times before, but on every group ride,
we still have dangerous situations come up that could be potentially harmful. We
all want to ride more often and usually in a group, so let’s all apply what we know
to be safe riding fundamentals and ensure everyone’s safety.
Hope to enjoy lots of fun, SAFE rides in 2020!

Winter Maintenance Cooler weather is here and riding opportunities are less so now is a good time
to take a close look at your ride and give it a thorough T-CLOCK inspection. Very
detailed T-CLOCK forms about what to check can be found online. Also in the
owner’s manual or shop manual can be found lists associated with mileage that
give a rundown of services that need to be performed. If you take your machine to
a shop for service, winter is a good time because the shops are less busy.
Most have heard of a T-CLOCK but have you ever really performed a really
detailed one on your ride? Also if you have a shop work on your bike it is a good
idea to T-CLOCK after getting it back. Are the fittings tight? Did they reattach your
accessories properly? Are the battery terminals or oil filter tight? Don’t rely on the
service tech alone, do your own check. Here are a couple of points to check from a
T-CLOCK form.
T- Tires & Wheels – along with pressure and tread check the brake pads.
C- Controls – have you ever lubed throttle cables and greased the throttle tube?
L- Lights & Electrics – remove battery cables and clean and use dielectric
grease on connections.
O- Oil & Other Fluids – is it time to change anti-freeze or brake and clutch fluid?
Most require replacing every 2 years.
C-Chassis – now may be a good time for that fork upgrade.
S- Stands – trike riders can forget about this one but have you ever lubed the
pivot on the sidestand? Works so much smoother.
So when the weather is frightful pick one item from the list and do a very
thorough check. Whether you repair yourself or make a shop list this will keep you
connected to your trike or motorcycle in the off season and make the coming ON
season much safer and enjoyable.

each batch is incorporated before introducing the next. Spread over the pumpkin bars.

Fun facts about jellied Cranberry Sauce…………..
Massachusetts based Ocean Spray produces about 79 million cans every year and 85% are
sold for Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
It takes about 200 cranberries to make one can of jellied cranberry sauce.
Jellied cranberry sauce from a can (the log) is most preferred by consumers accounting for
75% of all cranberry sauce sales.
Cranberry sauce was created in 1812 by boiling the bruised cranberries from the bog.
Because cranberries have a high pectin content, a key ingredient when making jams and jel-
lies, which causes the fruit to “gel”.
Canned cranberry sauce became an American staple for Thanksgiving in 1941.
John Lennon confirmed in an 1980 interview that he repeated the words “cranberry sauce” at
the end of the song “Strawberry Fields Forever”.

Well, it appears that winter is upon us. We are so lucky here in the Low Country of SC to be able to
ride year round. Riding in the winter isn’t without it’s own dangers. Like so many times, the morning
can be warm, and the temperatures drop in the afternoon, or vice versa. Sometimes, even bitter
cold. Be sure to layer and have your cold weather gear with you. Your fingers will love you for it.
