2.14 Significant Activities and contributions made by IQAC
1. To provide quality education to all, irrespective of caste, creed and religion, economic status or
physical health.
2. Infrastructure renovation and campus beautification.
3. To support minority community, financially weaker students and physically challenged students.
4. IQAC reviewed the academic performance and conducted academic audit of all departments and
suggested steps to improve overall teaching learning to the management.
5. To enhance students amenities and facilities and to encourage students to involve in NSS and
other social activities
6. To encourage faculty members to generate resource by way of submitting research projects and
undertaking consultancy and extension activities.
7. To provide laptop/desktop, LCD projector, and internet facility to most of the
Departments/Library/Office/Administrative subcommittees.
8. Introduction of special classes on moral and ethical values to inculcate the desirable value
systems amongst the students
9. Introduction of different measures to make college campus more eco-friendly, green and clean.
10. Convincing the Office staff to use ICT for smooth fast and easy work.
11. Initiatives to introduce career counselling and gender sensitization programme.
12. IQAC and Students actively participated in community social work at Jagaddal Vivekananda
Educational Society for Children (An organisation chiefly engaged for the support and education
of orphan, child labour & street children).
13. IQAC have already resolved to organise a blood donation camp and an eye camp in the next
session.

2.15 Plan of Action by IQAC/Outcome
The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality
enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year *
Plan of Action Achievements
1. Promoting the Use of Technology Most of the departments, office and library were
allotted Laptop/desktop, with internet facility. LCD
projector and smart board were allotted to
geography, computer science and physiology
departments.
2. Promotion of Research The college authorities provide all necessary
infrastructural support including space for carrying
out research work. This year in the botany
department an instrument room was constructed.
3. Environment Consciousness NSS Units actively participate in creating awareness
of environmental hazards and of the urgent need to
keep the environment clean, green and pollution free.
The NSS volunteers regularly lead campaigns to
prevent use of polythene and polythene products in
the college campus.
Many saplings were planted in the campus.
4. Catering to Student Diversity The institution organised induction programmes for
freshers at the beginning of the academic session.
5.Submission of Research Projects and

A number of minor research projects and seminar,
symposium, workshop proposal were submitted. 4
projects have been approved by UGC .
6.Social activities Tree plantation programme were observed in
collaboration with Axis Bank.

1. The college has initiated online admission, the application process; publication of merit list is done
based on computer software.
2. Computerization of administration is almost complete. All financial and academic data is maintained
in a digital database.

*The college library is more than 30 years old, many old books whose valuation is not possible. Many books

5. Student Support and Progression
5.1 Contribution of IQAC in enhancing awareness about Student Support Services
No such training programmes were undertaken by the College, but the college has provided internet
facility to almost all Departments. Teachers and a portion of students have benefitted from that. The
college has its own software for online admission and maintenance of database. Smart board and LCD –
projector were introduced in three departments of the college. College website upgraded.
• To upgrade Infrastructural facilities-like drinking water, toilet etc.
• Collecting Student feedback about difficulties.
• The IQAC has also suggested that different committees should interact with students to inform them
about facilities available in the college.
• The IQAC also suggested that opening of a Placement Cell would benefit the students.
• Apart from this there is a complaint box at the entrance of the college to receive the grievance of
students, which is also regularly checked and the student grievances redressed
• IQAC always encourages the students to participate in sports and games. A well maintained big
playground and a 16 station multi-gym along with other facilities are provided for the improvement
of sports and games.

• Both current and former students can access study materials including journals and magazines
from career corner of the library for the preparation of competitive examinations like WBCS,
PSC, SSC etc.

6.3.1 Curriculum Development
This college is trying to adapt itself a new way of thinking. The semi-urban location of the college caters to
needs of students who come from the grass-root level; some of them are even first-generation learners.
• Enrichment of collegiate education by providing learners most updated knowledge and services in Arts,
Science and Commerce subjects.
• To organise vocational training in different career oriented courses for the students to help them acquire
additional skill which is necessary either for self-employment or to make them more eligible for jobs in a
competitive market.
• To develop a new outlook of the taught so that they can prepare themselves to cope with the rapidly changing
academic scenario.
• To maintain a congenial and healthy atmosphere in the institution for all round development of mind and
body of our students.

• Although the syllabi are framed not by the college but by the university to which it is affiliated each
department adopts some innovative processes in teaching and learning.
• The faculties of each department meet at the beginning of each academic session for term-wise allocation
of syllabus assignments, contents, fix dates for the term-end tests and prepare the academic calendar of
that session.
• Technology enabled Teaching Learning process practiced in college. LCD projectors, overhead
projectors, and microphones are used for teaching regularly.
• Field study, Symposium, Project work and dissertation work carried out by most departments of the
College.

The human resource of the college is managed in a free and democratic manner. For the management of the
students’ affair, the college has a students’ union whose elections are held annually as per university
statutes. The teachers’ council and the non-teaching staff association look after the affairs of the teaching
and non-teaching staff respectively. Above all, there is a Governing Body that manages and develops the
total human resource of the college. The college’s aim is to make optimum use of the available human
resource.
The regular faculty is employed strictly as per UGC, West Bengal Government and University rules and
conditions. The same eligibility conditions apply to Part-Time and Guest faculty. Appointment of
whole-time teachers including Principal of affiliated colleges is made in accordance with the provisions of
the West Bengal College Service Commission Act. 1978 (West Bengal Act LXII of 1978). However, if in
any subject where faculty strength falls due to retirement of any teacher and the recruitment of new teacher
does not take place in time, then the authority takes initiatives to appoint Guest Faculty according to the
rules and norms laid down by the University of Calcutta and Department of Higher Education, Government
of West Bengal, and the rules made there-under.

Strategies has been adopted by institutions is to satisfy the needs of the students from
diverse backgrounds including socio-economic backward community complying with
all the norms of the Government. To ensure transparency in the admission process, for all the courses,

Annexure iii BEST PRACTICE
Practice #1 Title – Administrative empowerment
Objective – The College aims to improve efficiency of the administrative staff by introducing
administrative empowerment
Context – The number of students in the college as increased over time but the number of administrative
staff did not increase proportionately. For effective functioning of the college it was necessary to empower
the administrative staff to handle the extra workload effectively.
Practice – The College has taken a number of steps for administrative empowerment.
•Train the administrative staff to effectively use software
•Install advanced software solution for administrative automation
•Create administrative calendar at the beginning of each session
•Financial incentives given to the administrative staff for any extra assignments.
•Introduce administrative benefit such as arranging food packets if they work for extra hours at workplace
•Moral boost provided to encourage the Office Staff to shoulder additional responsibilities.

Today, with limited administrative resources, we are able to handle additional workload for increased
number of students effectively.

fixed by the Governing Body to meet the academic requirement of the students.
Evidence of Success – 1) The quality of education has gone up with the introduction of a large number of
teachers.
