Greetings to everyone who is, or has been supporting or helping our school
Lessons end early on Thursday 21
st June
Teachers from all over NZ are involved in Paid Union Meetings over the
next little while. The meeting for teachers in this district will be held on
Thursday 21st June. This means that teachers will not be available for
normal instruction that afternoon. A skeleton staff will be available to assist
with the supervision of any students who are unable to go home at lunch
time. To keep this number to a minimum parents are asked to allow their
children to walk home, or be picked up, at 12:40pm.
Buses will run at 3:00pm, to connect with college students, so parents need to pick their bus children up at
12:40pm or they will need to wait at school until 3:00pm. Only a few staff are available so we are
hoping that most/all students will be able to go home at 12:40pm. Please tell the school office if your
child needs to stay at school until 3pm. Thank you for your help with this.
Teachers are still in negotiations with the Government on their new collective employment agreement.
Please support the teachers you know as they seek to ensure every child, including yours, gets a great deal
at school.
Health & Safety Concern re Scooters It is great to see children enjoying their scooters, but it is very concerning to
see so many riding scooters to school in bare feet and without helmets. And
some of these are very young indeed.
Helmets MUST be worn if children are riding scooters to school. To ride
bikes to school children must be Y6 or older. This is because they need to
understand how traffic works, speed, give way rules, etc, etc. Very young
children don’t understand this yet. We’ve seen young children on scooters
crossing driveways and side roads, without watching out for other road users.
Parents, please make sure you children understand give way rules,
and wear helmets.
Road Safety Reminder No.1: Bus Safety Parents are reminded that the legal and safe speed at which to pass a bus that is
stopping to pick up or drop off passengers is 20kph. Bus drivers often witness
drivers speeding past far in excess of the legal limit, while students are getting on
or off their buses. Please support child safety by observing the 20kph speed
limit when passing a school bus in the morning or afternoon. It is also safe
practice to pick your child up on the same side of the road as the bus parks.
This stops children running across the road in front of traffic to meet parents.
Road Safety Reminder No.2: Cycling to School Parents are reminded that to ensure children are cycling to school safely, the
children should be….
Y6 (10 years) or older
Experienced riders
Wearing a helmet
Using a well maintained bike
