There are some aspects of our identities that are stable and some aspects that change from one

situation to the next

Stable Characteristics (same in every situation): Gender Race Origin Age

Changing Characteristics (depend on the situation): How you refer to yourself (daughter, son, friend, brother,

team-mate, etc.) Social identity (the identity we create for others to see)

to curb Western influence (pet owning has never been common in the Arab world)

The Chinese government forced 2,000 Western companies (located in China) to change their names to more Chinese sounding names
