SIMPLE TENSES

DEFINITION

TENSE: The form of the verb that indicates when “exactly” the action is done.

SIMPLE: PLAIN; Uncombined; PURE; Basic; Easy; Uncomplicated

SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE To talk about things in general To talk about things which

happen repeatedly/ everytime or something that is true in general.

PATTERN1. Singular subject + singular verb+ predicate

She likes chocolates.Ana drives everyday.

2. Plural subject + plural verb + predicateThey like chocolates.Ben and Ana drive to work everyday.

PAST: The time or a period of time before the moment of speaking or writing.

USAGE OF SHALL AND WILLWILL: Use will when you decide to do something at the time of speaking.

USE WILL in the FF:1. offering to do something.2. Agreeing to do something 3. promising to do someting4. asking somebody to do something

Shall: to ask somebody's opinion before doing something.

WILL vs. GOING TO

Progressive tenseGoing to: when you have arranged or decided on doing something before the time of speaking.

I am going to do my homework tonight. (planned activity)

USE DO/Does/Did in simple tenses specifically to ask questions or state negative statement.
