Named after Sir William Ward, the thenChief Commissioner of Assam, who initiatedthe plan for the construction of this lake,which was later constructed by ColonelHopkins in the year 1894, this lake is natureat its very best. It is also said that the areaaround this place was made by a Khasiprisoner, who requested to let him work to
bring a change to his monotonous dailyroutine. Thus, his role in beautifying theplace is something which is rememberedeven today.
There is also a Botanical Garden near thelake which has various orchids, apart fromthe several other varieties of flora thatadorn it. The bridge in the midst of the lakeis the perfect place to enjoy a view of thewhole lake, and maybe even feed the fish!
2 Shillong Peak
