Nairobi City came into being in 1950 It Started as a railway depot, Suitability of the location and the Country’s

political and administrative centre has made it largest metropolitan city in EA.

It was established to provide and manage basic social needs to its residents

Population of about 4million up from 10,000 in 1910

The physical areas has expanded from 3.84Km2 to 680Km2

The Council is managed by elected leaders (Mayor) and the Town Clerk.

The Town Clerk Heads 16 departments Each department with several section is

headed by a Director The Council has a work force of 11,400

It was adopted in 2005 in partnership with Public Service Reform & Development Secretariat (PSR&DS) through the Ministry of Local Government.

Vigorous training was carried out The top management embarked on target

setting & cascaded to other officers Reform Secretariat was set up to fast track

implementation of RBM.

In its 1st Rapid Result Initiative (RRI), the Council prepared the Strategic Plan

Since 2005, Council has been implementing RBM components to fast track achievement of results and the following has been achieved.
