One of the reasons SanDiego has such avibrant music commu-

nity, is the involvement of young-sters, through various commu-nity programs, bringing freshplayers and audiences into thescene. One such annual event, the annual Summer Blues Campfor BLUSD. (Blues Lovers Unitedof San Diego), will hold afundraiser at Tio Leo’s on July 28.On hand will be a who’s who oflocal blues talent includingsinger Mercedes Moore, acousticbluesman Robin Henkel, electricguitarist Lenny “Fuzzy” Rankinsand bands such as The BayouBrothers and 145th Street. Fundsraised at this event go directlytowards the camps expenses suchas venue rentals-instruments-instructors, making this a greatway to hear a lot of great musicwhile helping the next generationof musicians.

Summer Blues CampFundraiser: Sunday, July 28 atTio Leo’s, 5302 Napa St. 5 p.m.21 and up. $10. tioleos.com.

Long running cover band TheSiers Brothers performs at thePacific Beach Summer ConcertSeries at Kate Sessions Park onAug. 4. For nearly four decadesthe band has been entertainingSan Diegans with a mix ofcrowd-pleasing classic rock, calypso, top 40, country andblues. Offering something for justabout everybody, with anemphasis on danceable favoritesfrom “Mustang Sally” to “Suspi-cious Minds,” The Siers Brothersare the perfect soundtrack to aSunday afternoon in the park.

It’s true the flute doesn’t oftenget much respect. Rarely consid-ered a lead instrument, it’s tone isoften the icing on a musicalpiece. However, in the righthands, the instrument can be apowerhouse. Such will be thecase on July 27 with a concertfeaturing two celebrated flautists,New York-based Jamie Baum andSan Diegan Lori Bell at Dizzy’s.Backed by pianist LeonardThompson and bassist JustinGrinnell, both Baum and Bell arevirtuosos bringing new light totheir instrument of choice. Thisone off musical pairing shouldfind them reaching new heights.Jamie Baum & Lori Bell: Satur-day, July 27 at Dizzy’s at AriasHall, 1717 Morena Blvd. 8 p.m.$20 ($10 students). dizzys-jazz.com.

Country music is having aresurgence in San Diego, thanksto combos such as Barbwire, whoappear at Humphrey’s BackstageLive, on Aug. 1. Formed circa2014, the band includes plentyof twang in their sound, particu-larly singer/guitarist James Hol-land, but they also stretch out abit with blues and a bit of rock ‘n’roll, all custom built for hitting

the dance floor. Barbwire’s mostrecent single, “Long Hard Ride,”takes it’s cues from classic road-house country, slotting in wellamongst the cover tunes in theirrepertoire.

Barbwire: Thursday, Aug. 1 atHumphrey’s Backstage Live,2241 Shelter Island Drive. 7 p.m.humphreysbackstagelive.com.

Pat Benatar tribute group, WeBelong, performs at CamplandOn The Bay on Aug. 3. Featur-ing Debbie and Mike Sierras asPat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, WeBelong has extra authenticity intheir sound; they feature an orig-inal member of their celebratedgroup, bassist Roger Capps.Capps played on Benatar’s firstfive albums and such classics as“Heartbreaker,” “Love Is A Bat-tlefield,” and “We Live For Love,”giving We Belong’s rhythm sec-tion a major boost. MeanwhileDebbie Sierras does a good jobwith Benatar’s vocals makingthis an excellent representationof an ’80s music icon.

We Belong: Saturday, Aug. 3at Campland on the Bay. 8 p.m.All ages. Free. campland.com.

The 710 Beach Club will be thesite of a two tribute band bill onAug. 3, featuring Musehead, acombined tribute to Muse andRadiohead and the Fooz Fight-ers, a band that celebrates themusic of Dave Grohl and compa-ny. Both combos are quite good, but it’s hard to beat the FoozFighters for sheer energy. Theyfeature a hit-filled set that’s sureto have the crowd singing alongfrom the first note, but it’s front-man Nicky Rich that makes thisgroup. That they pretty muchsound and look like the real thingseals the deal.

Fooz Fighters: Saturday, Aug.3 at the 710 Beach Club, 710Garnet Ave. 9 p.m. 21 and up.
