Upgraded Safety Equipment

We have purchased several new pieces of safety equipment after we failed to meet several OSHA safety requirements last month including:

• Poor air quality• Improper guards on drill presses • Improper use of hand and eye protection

New EquipmentThe largest upgrade we made was installing Welding Fume

Exhaust Systems. These units will filter fumes from the welders improving air quality by up to 20%

• Units must be placed 1 foot above welding area to function properly.

• If placed too far away the system will not filter all the fumes, If placed too close to the part the system will remove exhaust gasses along with shielding gasses.

What is Shielding Gas?

New EquipmentA major upgrade to existing machinery is

that we have installed plastic guards on all Drill Presses.

• Place shield surrounding drill bit so that there is 2” between drilling surface and bottom of shield to increase visibility

Required Attire In the last three months we have had FIVE hand

injuries!All employees in the work area are now

required to wear eye protection AND gloves at all times. (Gloves will be dispensed along with safety glasses in the tool dispenser)

Hydration

• This past summer we had two incidents involving dehydration. As a result during the summer months we will provide free Gatorade and water bottles to encourage workers to stay well hydrated.

Overview

• Welding Fume Exhaust System Units must be placed 1 foot above welding area.

• Drill Press Shields must be used at all times. The shields may be placed no more than 2” above the base of the part for visibility.

• Safety glasses AND gloves are now required at all times!

• Free Gatorade during summer months.• If you are unsure how to use any piece of equipment
