Senior Student / Parent Night 2015

Senior Meeting

• Meeting with the student and his/her counselor, parents do not attend these meetings– Started last week

• Topics Reviewed:– Transcript, GPA/SATs/ACTs, internal application

process, Common App process, College list/ interview for recommendation letter

• Before senior meeting complete the Senior Letter of Rec Survey on NAVIANCE/ Parent Input for Rec Letter

Internal Application Process

• 15 Calendar Days Turnover Time! (over 1700 school packets processed last year)

• You should have already filled out the yellow “Authorization for Release of Transcript” form and returned in to the counseling office.

• Complete a “Recommendation Letter Follow-up Form” for each teacher you asked for a rec letter in the spring and get that form to them ASAP. Teachers have been asked to upload their recommendation letters no later than 10/15

Internal Application Process continued

• Submit an “Application Submission Form” for each college to which you have applied. The 15 day processing time begins when this form is received in the counseling office.

• Check NAVIANCE to see when materials have been submitted to college

• Senior meetings are being scheduled - please make every effort to make it to your meeting

Two important forms- “transcript release” must be completed once. “application submission form” must be completed for every college that the student intends to apply to.

Application Deadlines

Completing The FERPA Agreement

• Applicants will submit the FERPA decision on their Common Application account

• FERPA question is found within the “Recommenders and FERPA” tab of your application.

• In order for the counseling office to send transcripts, counselor recommendations, and teacher recommendations, this FERPA portion MUST be completed and your NAVIANCE account linked with your Common App account

Completing the Senior Letter of Recommendation Survey

• Student– If the student hasn’t

already done so, we ask all students to complete their survey. The counselors use this information to assist in completing their letter of recommendation.

• Parent– The parent also has there

own version of the survey to complete. The parent survey can be completed only by using the parent account and can not be found on the student’s account. Completing this survey assists counselors to complete the student’s recommendation.

8th period option help

• Counselors have reserved the Library computer labs during the first two 8th period options.

• Counselors will be available in the computer lab to assist students with their applications

• Students should sign-up if they need assistance or want to work on applications during 8th period

Local Scholarships

• The list of Local Scholarships will be available by March 1, 2016.

• The list is sent to senior homerooms, sent to seniors in an email, posted on NAVIANCE and the GVHS website and available in the Counseling Office.

• Scholarship applications are available for download from NAVIANCE.

• Keep checking for updates and additions once the link opens (notices will continue to be sent if additions are made)

• All applications, unless otherwise noted, are due in the Counseling Office by TUESDAY, April 5, 2016 at 3:00 PM. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

presentation– Library: Paul Wright and Carl Rosin form Jump Start Mainline

– College essay presentation– Cafeteria: Jeremy Branch from Penn State - Letting Your

Student Take the Wheel. How to help you child in this process.

– Auditorium: GVHS counselors, Carol Rowland from Lafayette and Lauren Lang from West Chester University brief presentation and then Q and A session regarding the application/admissions process
