Apparatus Inspection

ProceduresThe driver/operator should follow a

systematic procedure for inspecting apparatus

This ensures that all important items are checked every time the inspection is made.

Items to CheckBatteries Oil Tires

Proper Inflation

Braking System

Coolant System

Electrical System

Fuel Steering System

Hydraulic Fluids

Appliances Tools Lubrication

Equipment Foam Systems

Belts Hoses

ChecklistYou will be required to perform an

apparatus readiness check on a fire apparatus.

Apparatus MaintenanceMaintenance – keeping something in a

state of usefulness or readiness.

Repair – to restore or replace that which has become inoperable.

Apparatus MaintenanceEngine The most important phases of engine

maintenance are regular service inspections.

Apparatus MaintenanceDaily Maintenance: Includes checking oil level, radiator coolant

level, fuel levels, tires (proper inflation, wear, cuts), equipment inventory, checking visible and audible warning signals.

Apparatus MaintenanceWeekly Maintenance: Bleeding moisture from air brake tanks,

removing equipment from apparatus and cleaning, and the starting of all portable engines.

Apparatus MaintenancePeriodic Maintenance: Includes lubricating all motor, gear, or

hand operated appliances according to manufacturer’s specification

Apparatus MaintenanceBatteries Check voltage, specific gravity & corrosion

Check terminals & cablesAir Filter Should be serviced by qualified personnel

as required.
