Greater San Diego Science & Engineering Fair is not far off and we need your help as a judge for that day.

The 2017 Fair will take place on March 14 – March 19, 2017. Registration will take place on Tuesday, March 14 we have done some preview on that evening. All participating students must be present on Wednesday, March 15 for Judging Day.

So much fun talking to the bright minds of the future, volunteer for this impor-tant service to the community.

2016-2017 year (August through June).

Please contact Education Chair - Ramon Thomson with your requests, which he will attempt to accommodate if we obtain sufficient volunteer instructors for Saturday lectures. Please note instructors are not paid; however, they get re-certification points if they hold ASNT/ACCP Level III.

San Diego Section Meeting Report for February 07, 2017

February 07, 2017 the San Diego Section hosted the 5th Section Technical Meeting of the 2016 – 2017 year as well as being Past Chairman's Night. The meeting was held at the Seven Seas Lodge, 411 Ho-tel Circle South, San Diego, CA with 35 members and guests in attendance. The speaker for the evening was Mr. Michael Colling-wood, Owner of A-Scan Laboratories Inc. The Title of his presentation:“Applications of Laser Shearography Inspections". This presentation de-scribed the basic methodology of Laser Shearogra-phy Inspection and a brief history of its develop-ment. A number of specific applications was dis-cussed along with some of the advantages and limita-tions of the method. The current status of industry specifications and certification of personnel was pre-sented. There were a number of questions about comparisons to other NDT methods, inspec-tion time, test standards and a understanding the various techniques in the method. Also dis-cussed was applications and techniques used on space and aircraft flight hardware. Mr. Hans Weber, Sec-tion Program Chair thanked Mr. Collingwood for his informative talk and presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation and a speaker gift from the San Diego Section. The evening concluded with recognition of

the Past Chairman in attendance: Mr. Joseph Wilkins, Mr. Juan Diaz, Mr. Larry Olsen, Ms. Denise McKay, Mr. Hans Weber and Mr. John Mor-ris. The customary raffles: Raffle

prizes were sponsored by the San Diego Section, David Waitt: Fuji, Michael White; Met-L-Chek, Mi-chael McGloin; NDT Enterprises and Larry Olsen;

Northrop Grumman. All in attendance had a great time.

San Diego Section Chairman’s Meritorious Service Award The San Diego Section, of The American Society for Nondestructive Testing’s Chairmen’s Meritori-ous Service Award provides recognition for an individual’s outstanding voluntary service to the San Diego Section, through single or aggregate activities not necessarily in a single year. Nomi-nees submitted for consideration may not hold a current elected position as a section officer when nominated. ie: Secretary, Treasurer, Vice Chair-man or Chairman. Nominations are open to all current members as well as retired / inactive past members of the San Diego Section. Not more than one award shall be given in a calendar year. Nominations for this award shall be submitted to the Awards Chairman of the San Diego Section in

letterform of one hundred words or less. The nomination letter shall detail the nominees activi-ties as a volunteer to the San Diego Section.
