Christ Arose

Low in the grave He lay

Jesus my Savior

Waiting the coming day

Jesus my Lord

Up from the grave He arose

With a mighty triumph o'er

His foes

He arose a Victor from the dark

domain

And He lives forever with His

saints to reign

He arose He arose

Hallelujah Christ arose

Vainly they watch His bed

Jesus my Savior

Vainly they seal the dead

Jesus my Lord

Up from the grave He arose

With a mighty triumph o'er

His foes

He arose a Victor from the dark

domain

And He lives forever with His

saints to reign

He arose He arose

Hallelujah Christ arose

Death cannot keep his prey

Jesus my Savior

He tore the bars away

Jesus my Lord

Up from the grave He arose

With a mighty triumph o'er

His foes

He arose a Victor from the dark

domain

And He lives forever with His

saints to reign

He arose He arose

Hallelujah Christ arose

Scripture Reading

Matthew 28:1-10

Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.

His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said.

Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

And behold, Jesus met them and said, “ Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.

My Redeemer Lives

I know He rescued my soul

His blood has covered my sin

I believe I believe

My shame He's taken away

My pain is healed in His name

I believe I believe

I'll raise a banner

'Cause my Lord has conquered

the grave

My Redeemer lives

My Redeemer lives

My Redeemer lives

My Redeemer lives

You lift my burdens

I'll rise with You

I'm dancing on this mountaintop

To see Your kingdom come

My Redeemer lives

Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble?

Did you feel the mountains tremble

Did you hear the oceans roar

When the people rose to sing of

Jesus Christ the risen One

Did you feel the people tremble

Did you hear the singers roar

When the lost began to sing of

Jesus Christ the saving One

And we can see that God

You're moving

A mighty river through the nations

And young and old will turn to Jesus

Fling wide you heavenly gates

Prepare the way of the risen Lord

Open up the doors and

let the music play

Let the streets resound

with singing

Songs that bring Your hope

Songs that bring Your joy

Dancers who dance upon injustice

Do you feel the darkness tremble

When all the saints join in one song

And all the streams flow as one river

To wash away our brokenness

And here we see that

God You're moving

A time of jubilee is coming

When young and old return to Jesus

Fling wide you heavenly gates

Prepare the way of the risen Lord

Open up the doors and

let the music play

Let the streets resound

with singing

Songs that bring Your hope

Songs that bring Your joy

Dancers who dance upon injustice

At The Cross/Mighty to Save

Oh Lord You've searched me

You know my way

Even when I fail You

I know You love me

Your holy presence

Surrounding me

In every season

I know You love me

I know You love me

At the cross I bow my knee

Where Your blood was shed for me

There's no greater love than this

You have overcome the grave

Your glory fills the highest place

What can separate me now

You go before me

You shield my way

Your hand upholds me

I know You love me

I know You love me

You tore the veil You made a way

When You said that it is done

You tore the veil You made a way

When You said that it is done

Saviour

He can move the mountains

My God is mighty to save

He is mighty to save

Forever

Author of salvation

He rose and conquered the grave

Jesus conquered the grave

Shine your light

And let the whole world see

We're singing for the glory

Of the risen King Jesus

Shine your light

And let the whole world see

We're singing for the glory

Of the risen King Jesus

Saviour

He can move the mountains

My God is mighty to save

He is mighty to save

Forever

Author of salvation

He rose and conquered the grave

Jesus conquered the grave

Glorious Day

One day when heaven was filled

with His praises

One day when sin was as black as

could be

Jesus came forth to be born

of a virgin

Dwelt among men my example

is He

The Word became flesh

And the light shined among us

His glory revealed

Living He loved me

dying He saved me

Buried He carried

my sins far away

Rising He justified freely forever

One day He's coming

O glorious day (glorious day)

One day they led Him up

Calv'ry's mountain

One day they nailed Him

to die on a tree

Suffering anguish despised

and rejected

Bearing our sins my Redeemer

is He

The hand that healed nations

Stretched out on a tree

And took the nails for me

Living He loved me

dying He saved me

Buried He carried

my sins far away

Rising He justified freely forever

One day He's coming

O glorious day (glorious day)

One day the grave could conceal

Him no longer

One day the stone rolled away

from the door

Then He arose over death

He had conquered

Now is ascended my Lord

evermore

Death could not hold Him

The grave could not keep Him

From rising again

Living He loved me

dying He saved me

Buried He carried

my sins far away

Rising He justified freely forever

One day He's coming

O glorious day (glorious day)

One day the trumpet will sound for

His coming

One day the skies with His glories

will shine

Wonderful day my beloved one

bringing

My Savior Jesus is mine

Living He loved me

dying He saved me

Buried He carried

my sins far away

Rising He justified freely forever

One day He's coming

O glorious day (glorious day)

Scripture Reading

1 Corinthians 15:1-11

Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you— unless you believed in vain.

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.

Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.

For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain.

On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

Seven observations on the resurrection

1. Jesus did not simply return to a normal biological life as one whom, by the laws of biology, would eventually die again.

2. Jesus is not a ghost or spirit. He does not belong to the realm of the dead, but is able to reveal himself in the realm of the living.

3. Jesus’ appearances are not out of body mystical experiences or hallucinations by his grief stricken followers.

4. Jesus’ resurrection points beyond history, but has left a footprint within history. Witnesses can attest it as an event of an entirely new kind.

5. Jesus’ resurrection appearances were a matter of assembling a circle of disciples who would be able to testify that Jesus did not remain in the grave that he lives on.

6. Jesus’ resurrection was utterly different, a breaking out into an entirely new form of life, into a life that no longer subject to the law of dying.

7. Jesus’ resurrection is a universal event opening up a new dimension of human existence in the midst of the continuing old world.

Question: “So how do we get to this wholly “other” human existence on earth now?”

Answer: Give back the government of the kingdom of heaven back to God.

A picture of this wholly “other” human existence governed by God is given to us in Acts 2:41-47

And they devoted themselves to the apostles ' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.

And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.

And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,

praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
