Block AssemblyFor this quilt, you’ll need to make three differentblocks. Refer to the photo for fabric placementguidance for each block.
1. To make block A, sew matching 1 1/4" x 8" rectanglesto opposite sides of an 8" square. Then sew matching1 1/4" x 9 1/2" rectangles to the remaining two sides tocomplete the block. The blocks should measure 9 1/2"square, including seam allowances. Make a total of 6A blocks.
2. Sew matching 1 1/4" x 3 1/2" rectangles to oppositesides of a 3 1/2" square. Then sew matching 1 1/4" x 5"rectangles to the remaining two sides of the square. The unit should measure 5" square, including seamallowances. Make 20 of these units.
3. Sew matching 1 1/4" x 8" rectangles to the long sidesof a 3 1/2" x 8" rectangle. Then sew matching 1 1/4" x 5"rectangles to the remaining two sides of the rectangle.The rectangular unit should measure 5" x 9 1/2",including seam allowances. Make 8 rectangular units.
4. To make block B, join two square units from step2 to make a rectangle. Join this rectangle to the leftside of a rectangular unit from step 3 to completethe block. The block should measure 9 1/2" square.Make 8 B blocks.
5. Sew matching 1 1/4" x 6 1/2" rectangles to the longsides of a 2" x 6 1/2" rectangle. Then sew matching1 1/4" x 3 1/2" rectangles to the remaining two sidesof the rectangle. Add matching 1 1/4" x 8" rectanglesto the sides and 1 1/4" x 5" rectangles to the top andbottom edges to complete the rectangular unit. Therectangular unit should measure 5" x 9 1/2", includingseam allowances. Make 2 of these rectangular units.
6. To make block C, join two square units from step 2to make a rectangle. Join this rectangle to the left sideof a rectangular unit from step 5 to complete the block. The block should measure 9 1/2" square. Make 2 C blocks.
7. Lay out the blocks in four rows of four blocks each, rotating one block in each row as shown in the photo.Join the blocks into rows and then join the rows.
8. Measure the length of the quilt top. Trim two1 1/2"-wide 480 K strips to this length and sew themto the sides of the quilt top. Measure the width of thequilt top. Trim the two remaining 1 1/2"-wide strips tothis length and sew them to the top and bottom ofthe quilt top to complete the inner border.
9. Join the 2 1/2"-wide 479 Z strips end to end to makea long strip. Measure the length of the quilt top. Fromthe pieced strip, cut two strips to this length and sewthem to the sides of the quilt top. Measure the widthof the quilt top. From the pieced strip cut two strips tothis length and sew them to the top and bottom of thequilt top to complete the middle border.
10. Repeat step 9, using the 5"-wide 476 SZ strips forthe outer border.
11. Layer the quilt top with batting and backing; baste.Quilt as desired. Using the 2 1/4"-wide 480 K bindingstrips, bind the edges to finish.
