Exalted Ruler’s Message
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season with family and
friends. December was a very busy month for us.
As 2019 came to a close I am proud to say the members of our lodge
stepped up and donated items and time to a lot of great causes. Just to
name a few, the Duffel Bag Project, Socks for Veterans, Toys for Tots,
and the food pantry.
We also outdid ourselves and adopted three families.
Our members also donated time over the holidays to serve a meal at the city mission
and serve ice cream to veterans at the VA hospital.
Ultimately this is why we became Elks, isn't it? To help our community and those that
are less fortunate than us.
Wednesday meals will be starting again in January, so stop in for a bite to eat.
Fraternally, Maria Dickerson, PER

Secretary’s Message
I hope everyone had a great Holiday Season.
Please think back to the many things we have
accomplished in December.
The Adopt-A-Family went off so well that with all
you’re your gifts and donations we were able to
assist a third family.
The Toys for Tots box was over flowing with toys.
What a great sight.
The Food Pantry was able to stock its shelves
with your donations to make sure those who
need food and toiletries get what they need.

The socks for Veterans was even more successful
than last year. Thank you for thanking those who
served our country.
The City Mission food service program is packed
with our Elks and served over 200 meals.
The Veterans Ice Cream Program brought smiles to
those in the hospital over the holidays , most
without families to visit them. It was you that
made their day and brought smiles to their faces.

Thomas R. Myslinski

I would like to thank all the members of
the lodge for their continued support of
our veterans. Over the last several months
the lodge has visited the VA hospital in
Albany, distributed ice cream to the vets;
10 of our members spent many hours over
2days helping veterans at the annual
Northeast Homeless veterans standdown
held this year for the first time at the
Schenectady Armory where 155 veterans
were given free meals, clothing and access
to free medical and legal aid. Also the
lodge again has donated 120 pairs of socks
to the Fisher house for the vets.
God Bless our vets and God bless you

Lodge veterans chairman

City Mission Meal Our next opportunity to serve a meal at The City Mission is Saturday January 18 at 2:30. Save the date for Saturday February 15 as well. Please go to our landing page to register for this event. It takes us about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to serve about 150-200 guests. We need at least 10 people to help serve the meal. If you are unable to sign up on the link below, let me (Deb Kruk) know and I will see that you are included. Use the following link: sgelks.citymissionofschenectady.volunteerhub.com. If you are unable to help at the Mission, consider donating a few dozen cookies or cupcakes as we bring these for dessert. This is our Beacon Grant and a way to serve and donate money to benefit our local residents in need. If you have never been to the Mission, take a trip over and see some of the great things they do to assist people who are in need. ********************* Grants Update We are nearly complete with our Grants for the 2019-2020 year. We were able to donate $300 of toys to The City Mission Toy Program and our Adopt A Family was a huge success. We were able to bring Christmas to 3 families this year. Thank you! We have yet to distribute our dictionaries to local third graders. Please let Jim Trapini or Rich/Deb Kruk know if you would like to help with this. ******************** Weekend Back Pack Program We continue to deliver weekend food to needy children. This year we are up to 95 children served at our
school.
We were also able to assist a family at the school with some needed items on their Christmas list.
