Saturn Cronus (Saturn),

was a major Roman God of Agriculture and harvest.

Ruled in Italy under the name Saturn.

3

Composition of Planet Consists of mostly

hydrogen. In the center, the

pressure is so great, that the hydrogen is turned into a liquid.

Even closer toward the center, the liquid hydrogen turns into metallic hydrogen.

The core is made of rock and ice.

4

Composition of Atmosphere Saturn’s

atmosphere consists of mainly hydrogen and helium but also trace amounts of nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur that create the haze.

Under that is a layer of clouds.

Moon There are 62 moons

in total, but these are the most important:TitanRheaIapetus

kilometers away from the sun.

Maximum 1.5 billion kilometers away from the sun.

7

Revolutionary/Rotational Period 29.5 Earth years is

its revolutionary period.

10.67 Earth hours is its rotational period.

8

Temperatures (high/low) Highest temperature

is 700 degrees F. Temperature at the

top of the clouds in -285 degrees F.

9

Axis Saturn’s axis is tilted

at 27 degrees from the perpendicular point (90 degrees).

Faster rotational spin than any other planet but Jupiter.

Significant Features Rings

Rings A, B, C, D, E, F, and G.

Cassini division is between rings A and B.

Saturn has 62 moons that have been discovered.

Interesting Facts

Saturn is the least dense planet. The first astronomers thought the rings were

moons. Saturn has only been visited 4 times by

spacecraft. You can see saturn with your own eyes Sometimes the rings disappear.
