SAP Application Server
STRIDINGAHEADThe SAP Application Server enables the object-oriented
development of applications. It is especially useful for
implementing scalable Internet applications.
Internet applications must easily adapt to arapidly changing environment. The new SAP
Application Server allows you to developadaptable Internet applications withoutrelying on external components. You can ac-cess mySAP component data and application
objects as well as external components di-rectly from the Internet applications. TheSAP Application Server offers server-basedscripting in ABAP and JavaScript for devel-oping Web applications. The current Inter-net protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, and SMTP) aredirectly integrated into the application serv-er. The servers architecture enables Inter-net applications to be implemented in a di-rect and object-oriented way. Applicationlogic and presentation logic remain clearlyseparated.
Web applications are developed as Busi-ness Server Pages. Conceptually, they sharethe same page-based approach as classicserver-side scripting technologies like Java-Server Pages (JSP), which is familiar territo-ry for JSP and ASP developers. The develop-
ment environment for Business ServerPages and administration of the Web appli-cation is completely integrated into the SAPdevelopment environment. You can connectto external Web design tools using the cur-rent standards. An integrated Web ControlFramework supports the development ofcomplex Web applications and provides typi-cal interface and interaction components tobe used as server page controls.
The SAP Application Server is based onthe proven SAP application server infra-structure. In addition to a new Web pro-gramming model, Internet application de-
velopers benefit from:
s Platform independences High scalabilitys High performance and cachings High availabilitys Easy administrations Integrated transport and correction
systems Translation functionss Multilingual and localization capabilitys User managements Securitys Multideveloper platform
