VOL. XXXVI, NO. 7/8
“I AM THE VINE, YOU ARE THE BRANCHES” (John 15:51)
JULY/AUGUST 2015
Saints Peter and Paul The Apostles Peter and Paul also are setting another very good example for us: they gave their lives completely to the Saviour. And so we should do the same. But also note, the Apostles Peter and Paul had some strong differences of opinion as to how to go about preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We can see in the writings of the Apostle Paul how strongly he disagreed with the Apostle Peter on some occasions. The fact of this disagreement does not mean that they were enemies because they disagreed. They had different opinions. The Lord prospered the multiplication and spread of the Gospel just because of these different opinions. These two very different men preached the Gospel in two different ways to different groups of people. They were suited to different evangelical tasks, and as a result of this, many more people were converted to the love of Jesus Christ than if they had gone about doing their preaching and serving in exactly the same way. They had disagreements, yes. The Apostle Paul had disagreements about how to go about things with the Apostle Barnabas and Mark, too. Still, that did not mean division. Even if there was disagreement, there was always among the Apostles, reconciliation and harmony. Differences, yes, but co-operative differences. To illustrate this, we have the death of the two Apostles Peter and Paul expressing their unity and their harmony in Jesus Christ. In the same city, the Apostle Peter was crucified upside down as he wished, and the Apostle Paul was beheaded. This characterizes in a very visible way how the Lord Who is the giver of life gives so many gifts to His children, you and me; how He creates all of us uniquely and differently; and how He uses all these uniqueness, these dif-ferences, this variety of gifts to give life to this world, to heal the broken-hearted, to heal the sick, to re-unite the separated, to bring home the lost, to give life and light where there is darkness. The Lord uses all of these gifts in us for good, to His glory and for giving life. Let us ask the holy Apostles Peter and Paul to pray for us today that the Lord will give us strength to be faithful to Him until the end as they are, and to serve Him with all of our hearts that we may glorify our Saviour, enter with these Apostles into the Kingdom, and glorify with them this same Saviour Jesus Christ together with the Father, Who is everlasting, and His all-holy good and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages.

ers who have contributed greatly to their

FAIRWELL-
It’s with a heavy heart that we an-
nounce that Father Haralambos is
being transferred to Saint Barbara
in Santa Barbara as of August 1,
2015. We received correspon-
dence from His Eminence Metro-
politan Gerasimos on June 26th
that Father Haralambos will the
Proistamenos. We are happy for
Father and Presbytera for this won-
derful opportunity to serve the
Saint Barbara community. Father
Haralambos arrived at St. John the
Baptist - Anaheim in September of
2013. Father has been involved in
our youth ministries and has as-
sisted Father John in strengthening
our Church School, GOYA and
revitalizing our GOYA Basketball
program. Father Haralambos also
was instrumental in launching our
new stewardship software pro-
gram. Parish Council will be host-
ing a luncheon for Father, Presby-
tera, Marika and Theo on Sunday,
July 26th immediately following
Divine Liturgy. Please plan on
joining us for Father’s last Sunday
at St John the Baptist.

A joint meeting of the Parish
Council and the Revitalization
committee was held on Monday
June 15th to discuss the flooring
on the fellowship hall. It was de-
cided that a wood floor will be
best for the facility. We look for-
ward to this next phase of the
project.
Dear faithful and beloved members of St. John’s Parish –
I can’t believe that my assignment here has come to an end. In the two short years
that I have been a part of your parish family I have gotten to know most of you and have
come to love all of you. From the very first people that greeted me here you have made me
and my family feel very welcomed and at home. I am especially grateful to Fr. John for the
mentoring and advice that he has offered to me.
I don’t know how to begin to say Goodbye. I was not looking for another parish to
serve, so when the bishop told me he was considering a new assignment I was surprised.
Two years is just the beginning of a ministry, and I felt that I was just getting acclimated.
As you know however, priests are called to be ready to serve wherever there is a need, and
the position of an assistant is never secure for too long. Santa Barbara will be without a
priest beginning in July, and I am glad that I will be able to make a quick transition for
them, and I pray that the transition time to a new Priest will be short for St. John’s also.
St. John is a truly unique parish. I’ve never seen a community where there are so
many third-generation families in a parish that remember all of the history of the parish and
know everyone in it. This is such a great strength because it can serve to make that feeling
of being a close united family even stronger. With that spirit, you are all well-poised for
growth. As long as you stay united in fulfilling the ministry of Christ, you will accomplish
great things! I still have the letters that visitors have written to me saying how welcoming
and generous you all are – I know that you will draw more people to you. I know the youth
programs will continue to grow because I have seen the enthusiasm of the core parents that
have dedicated themselves to be the youth advisory board. I pray that all parents will con-
tinue to put the highest priority on keeping their kids involved with church activities so that
the enthusiasm will multiply greatly. Remember – the greatest gift any parish has to offer
its children is a life centered around Christ and the Church!
One consoling thought that I have is that I know this is not goodbye forever. I will
be seeing you all at parish events in the future, and I hope that you will come and visit us in
Santa Barbara. Once again, thank you for treating my family so incredibly well, I hope that
I have been able to minister to you for your benefit. Thank you for all of the support
through my illnesses, thank you for all of the prayers and everything you have done for my
family over the past 2 years. I humbly ask for your continued prayers for us, and I assure
you that each of you will always be in my prayers. I look forward to hearing good things
from you – may God continue to bless you all!
With love in Christ,
Fr. Haralambos
GOYA BASKETBALL would like to thank our Saint John’s family with helping this season to be a success-
ful year. This season was not a season of how many games we won, but we measured our success with the
number of children that we were able to gather together. To first, fellowship with one another by praying
together and breaking bread together before each game, and we were very fortunate between the help of
many parents to also have our own end of the year banquet.
We would like to give a special thanks first to two amazing friends, Mr. Alex Soles and Mr. Sperry
Diavatis. These two gentlemen do not have any children of their own that are playing basketball, but be-
cause of their love for the church, and they see the importance of keeping a strong youth ministry here at our
St. Johns, they sacrificed their time to help our children and our youth program. May God keep them
healthy and blessed. We love you guys.
Thanks to all the coaches and all the parents for helping with this season be as successful as it was.

We were grateful and thankful this year that we had an opportunity with the blessings from Father John to
remember and show our love to a great man and spiritual leader, our very own Father James Diavatis. May
his blessed memory be forever eternal. We had a special award in honor of his name, The Father James
Diavatis Sportsmanship Award. Our 2015 recipients were Bella Vino Jr., girls, Athony Petros Jr., boys,
Michael Bangos Sr., boys, and our young adult George Peniche.
Our All-Star players for the league were, Spiro Papachristos and Donald Glinkie Jr., boys, Christianna
Loukatos and Panayiota Pieratos Jr., girls, Argiri Alexopoulos and Carl Cantonis Sr., boys. We are
extremely proud and grateful also to have the recipient that represented our church in the best and special
manner of sportsmanship, and as model of a good young Christian leader, Michael Bangos (axios) .
We look forward to next season, with our new and strong GOYA advisors. Our focus is raising our
children as strong and dedicated Christians who will have the passion and desire to spread God’s love to all.

Please remember that is a language school and not a traditional age school. A 10-year-old student can be in 1st level along with 7-year-old students. A student does not automatically progress to the next grade without hav-
ing passing the basic exams of the current class. This ensures that the language is being taught properly and that the student fully realizes the education received.
