Safety Moment: Halloween Safety Tips!!!

Because masks can limit or block eyesight, consider non-toxic makeup and decorative hats as safer alternatives. Hats should fit properly to prevent them from sliding over eyes.

Obtain flashlights with fresh batteries for all children and their escorts.

Candlelit pumpkins should be placed on a sturdy table, away from curtains and other flammable objects, and should never be left unattended.

To keep homes safe for visiting trick-or-treaters, parents should remove from the porch and front yard anything a child could trip over such as garden hoses, toys, bikes and lawn decorations.

completed in 2004• Assessment was

approved in 2011 with recommendation for Remedial Action

• Remedial Action Plan approved in 2012

REMEDIATION• Remedial Action Plan

– Soil Excavation to Industrial Cleanup Target Levels

– Barrier wall– Contaminants

• Aldrin• Alpha-BHC• Chlordane• Dieldrin• Heptachlor• Toxaphene

REMEDIATION• Remedial Action Plan

Monitor groundwater quality

– Aldrin– Alpha-BHC– Chlordane– Dieldrin

REMEDIATIONPre-excavation work included:• Surveying• Rail Spur Removal• Monitoring Well

Abandonment• Concrete Slab

Sampling• Geophysical Study

REMEDIATION

• GSE Vertical Barrier Wall Installation

• Soil Excavation– 720 Tons Non-

Hazardous– 300 Tons Hazardous

REMEDIATION

Challenges:

• Physical Site Size• Hazardous Waste

Characterization• Treatability Study• Safe Site Access

NEXT STEPS• Site Restoration

– Hazardous waste disposal– filling low spots to reduce ponding and erosion– hydroseeding

• Institutional Controls– mitigating exposure concerns for soil SCTL

exceedances below industrial but above residential• Quarterly Groundwater Sampling

– monitor plume stability
