STUDY PURPOSE

Initial: Examined Coastal Storm Risk

Management (CSRM) and Ecosystem

Restoration (ER) problems and

opportunities within six counties of the

upper Texas coast (Orange, Jefferson,

Chambers, Harris, Galveston, and

Brazoria Counties)

Focused: Examined CSRM problems

and opportunities for the Sabine Region

(Orange and Jefferson Counties) and the

Brazoria Region (Freeport Vicinity).

PROJECT HISTORY AND TIMELINE

2001 - First Federal funding received, Feasibility Cost Share Agreement signed by Galveston & Jefferson Cos.

2008 - Hurricane Ike significantly impacts the study area

2009 - Project inactivated at request of Non-Federal Sponsors

2011/12 - Identification of new Non-Federal Sponsor (TX GLO) and re-scoping efforts to increase study area.

2013 - Feasibility Cost Share Agreement signed by GLO / Study resumes

2014 - Received 1st exemption for $4.4M and 3.9 yrs

2015 - Tentatively Selected Plan identified

2017 - Final Report submitted for approval

2018 – Bipartisan Act of 2018 signed into law

2019 – First Design Contracts schedule for Award

2019 – First Construction Contract schedule for Solicitation

2020 – First Construction Contract schedule for Award 'Moving Dirt!’

2026 – Scheduled for Completion of Construction!
