Where are you from? Well this is a funny question (laugh out loud), simply because at one time where I was born and where I am from wasn’t on the world map. Myself, my parents and people from my region kind of felt we never had a home and it was only until recently that this region was recognised in the world as well as the media as the Kurdish Region of Northern Iraq. I was born in the Kurdish region of Turkey but was raised in Germany. I now live be-tween the UK and Malta.

Lisa GraceIn that case what is your nationality and what is your origin?
My nationality is German and my ethnic origin is Kurdish.
When did you start modelling?
I was 16 years old and just ! nished High School when I entered
the competition for Miss Germany. Like any young women I was
curious about the fashion industry and wanted to give it a try.
How was the experience for you?
Well, I must say it was very interesting and an experience I will for-
ever cherish. I didn’t win the but it gave me the drive to never give up.
However, I also decided to focus on my studies and try to continue with my
modelling abroad. I was then later given the opportunity by the great Nige-
rian designer Angel Sadel to be the face of her clothing line in London 2009.
How did it work out for you to do
both (modelling and studying)?
As for my studies I am proud to say that through hard work and de-termination I graduated at Oxford Brookes University last year. I gradu-ated in BSc Hons Real Estate Manage-ment and had a brilliant time, meet-ing new people from all around the world, making new friends, working and all that in a foreign language . During my studies I was doing many catwalk shows in Oxford and Lon-don as well as di" erent photo shoots for many di" erent designers. It was a good practice to get to know the fashion and modelling industry.

What are you working on right now?
Right now, I have got several things lined up but don’t want to tell too much details about it at this time . All I can say is, I was asked to model for a jewellery designer in London which I am really excited about, there is another competition I was asked to take part of in August and then there is the London Fashion Week in September.
What do you think about the fashion in-
dustry?
I love the fashion industry but one must bear in mind it is a trillion dollar business and must treat as a business in my point of view. Being a model is a form of art and I am a very creative person. As a model you have to be able to show di! erent looks and being able to be transformed to sell di! erent products at a drop of a dime. However, like in any other industry, there are negative and positive as-pects and I try to look at the positive aspects.
Are you with a modelling agen-
cy now? I am not with anyone right now simply because a lot of the work I have done came through word of mouth and via social media network. But in the meantime, I have managed to get an agent. " e reality is just because you are singed with an agency doesn’t guarantee you endless work.
Who have you worked with
recently? I have just recently done the PFW6 in London and also worked with London based designers Tina Lobondi and Omar Mansoor. Who have you worked with in the past? Angel Sadel, Saknia Ali and Le-nie’s Revival, the photographer Adrian Krajewski, the French hairdresser Anne Veck and Samantha Oshea who I have modelled for the launch of AE Paradigm in Malta. " ey all were very inspiring to me and have encouraged me to take my modelling career further. I am so lucky to have met all these people in this industry.

What would you recommend
young girls who want to be-
come a model?
First of all I would recommend that young girls today who are thinking of becoming a model should also give some time and priority to their education. Simply as a back-up plan as this beautiful world of fashion can be very unstable. So many times so many young women came into this industry with little or no education, some of them only to nd themselves at a certain age not nding the work as uent as when they came in young. I believe my modelling should serve some purpose and that is my message to young girls out there.
