- 1. Hurricanes By Rowan Dinneen
- 2. How Are Hurricanes Formed?
- Higher pressure areas meet lower pressure areas.
- Air becomes warm and moist then rises into a cloud.
- Fed by warm evaporating ocean water, it keeps growing.
- Cool air rotates around the low pressure area, increasing
speed.
- It becomes stronger from the wind and water inside keeps making
clouds.
- The eye is formed in the center and is very clear.
- It becomes a violent tropical cyclone.
- 3. Precipitation, Wind, and Destruction
- Hurricanes bring flooding, torrential rain, storm surge and
high winds.
- The wind speed of a hurricane ranges from 74mph- 155mph.
- Hurricanes are categorized by wind speed, damage, and storm
surge.
- They ruin buildings, pick up cars, and cause millions of
dollars worth of damage.

- 5. Quote 1
- Shes comin on boys, and shes comin on strong. Radioed Captain
Billy Tyne
- Captain Tyne is talking about the hurricane to his crew. This
shows his awareness of how powerful the hurricane is and that he
knows his crew is in danger.
- 6. Quote 2
- After I lost contact with the raft I was by myself and I
realized my only chance of survival was to make it until the storm
subsided.
- This shows the damage and loss of life that can occur from a
hurricane. It also illustrates the length of time that a hurricane
can last.
- 7. Quote 3
- If the boats flip over- even with everything dogged down- water
is going to get in. The boats upside- down, the plywoods buckling,
thats the end.
- They know their lives are on the line and the hurricanes
strength is strong enough to ruin their boat and leave them
stranded.
- 8. Quote 4
- The dangerous storm previously forecast was now fact.
- This shows that even when we have prior knowledge of a storm we
dont always heed the warnings, and that can lead to severe
consequences.
