August 2015

Fellow Rotarians, There is a homework assignment at the end of this article. It's membership month for Rotary international. Do you believe in Rotary? I mean REALLY believe. Is it a way to serve your community? And the world? Does your club have an awesome community service project? What needs does your community have that your club can fill? Do you enjoy the fellowship of your fellow club members? If you have positive answers for most of these questions, why not share it with your friends and work co-horts, and get them involved in your club? It ain't someone else's responsibility, it is the responsibility of each of us, individually. Homework assignment: send me an email (DGJohn2015@aol.com) and tell me why you are a Rotarian. Write "Why I am" in the subject block so I don't delete it. My reason? To eliminate Polio in the world. Because I am one of the lucky survivors of Po-lio. It is up to you. Yours In Rotary Service, John Kramb John Kramb, DG 2015-2016

ROTARY E-CLUB IN DISTRICT 7390

The chartering Rotary EClub of District 7390 is actively seeking new charter members. As Rotarians, we all know someone who believes in the power and ideals of Rotary, but cannot make a weekly meeting. The Rotary EClub of District 7390 is an additional avenue for those busy professionals, leaders, and entrepreneurs who desire the fellowship and service of a Rotary club, but need a non traditional format for engaging. Our E-club offers asynchronous meetings (24 hours a day, 7 days a week). These meetings can be used as makeups for ac-tive Rotarians and is the meeting format used for those who are active members of the EClub. Engaging at the district level and with local clubs, the Rotary EClub of District 7390

uses their website http://districteclub7390.org/ and their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/districteclub7390?ref=hl to link Rotarians across the district and around the globe. Weekly meetings on local and global challenges, educational showpieces, and highlights from other Rotary clubs keeps our meetings engaging and interesting. In honor our of annual theme Be a Gift to the World the District EClub 7390 wishes to welcome and engage active Rotarians as guests, to encourage new members seeking a more non traditional method to join us, and to build relationships with community members interested in collaborating on the areas of Rotary service. Please come visit us. Say Hi. Complete a Makeup. Refer those who are not able to make the traditional meeting to our club and welcome them into the Rotary family in a unique way. We send good wishes to all of our fellow Rotari-ans for a memorable Rotary year, and wish many positive ripple effects to come from your many good works.

NOTES FROM THE WATERFRONT

Did you know that something as commonplace as bottled water can be used to help raise awareness about the glob-al need for clean water . . . and raise some money to help fund a water project as well? Depending what you do with these bottles of water, you could also end up with some exciting opportunities to build new relationships with others who may be interested in joining a Rotary Club. Rotary Club of Harrisburg and Rotary Club of West Shore teamed up to provide water to the crowd that attended the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra at Negley Park on July 3, 2015. A great big goes to all the Rotarians who helped make this a great event. EASTERN YORK COUNTY During their July dinner meeting the Club installed its new president at the Wrightsville House. Out-going President Phil Lehman (2013-15) reflected on the past year under his leadership. He viewed a growth of 8 new members under his reign. During the past 2 years, recognizing the efforts of chair Ben Cope, a new member for his efforts in the Clubs fundraising salt sale; Chair John Mann of the car wash fundraiser, Chair Ken Stoner of the Memorial Golf Tournament, Chair Chris Leiphart of the French fry stand at the foot-ball games. Phil continued with activities in the Eastern School District by mentioning The Dollars for Scholars Scholarship of $1500; RYLA with 6 students attending; JA BizTown; Byrnes HEC and many other school events sponsored by the Club. “We continue to give do-nations back to our friends in the Community that the Club worked with very closely: Senior Center, Fire Company, Library, WCRC, 4th of July Committee, Joining Hands in Disaster Response, Eastern York Food Pantry and others, Phil related. He was also proud of the Clubs $2100 contribution to The Rotary Foundation. He was proud of something he had been trying to do for some years and believes it will come true and that is a District Grant for Habitat for Humanity in the Wrightsville Community. He attributed this to the efforts of members Charlie Krotzer and Melissa Wirls for filing the paperwork with the District. Phil stated “we have or will have committed $2000 towards this effort. Ground-breaking for the new house will take place in August of 2015. Phil concluded by looking forward to the new leadership under Melissa Wirls and the other incoming officers. He then thanked the membership, guests, family and friends in attendance for making his years a president a great success! The past president award was presented to Phil by AG Joanne Pinkerton. She addressed the Club and those present with the highest regards for the Club under Phil’s leadership. Incoming President Melissa Wirls was installed by DG John Kramb and assisted by AG Joanne Pinkerton. Then they installed the Board of Directors. At this time, the passing of the gavel between out-going President Phil Lehman and Incoming President Melissa Wirls took place. Melissa then address the group regarding her anticipations for the coming year. Recognizing AG Joanne for her inspiration, guid-ance and help to prepare her for the year. She also reflected upon the International Assembly in San Diego and the moving speech by RI President Ravindran, where he expressed our obligations; our talents with each other and our community, Rotary and the world. Melissa said it is her aspiration for the Club to not only increase membership, but also implement more fireside chats, broaden their public image and a rejuvenation of the activities they are involved in. She also expressed that family is very important to every-one and the club needs to increase interaction with their families. “As our children are the future leaders of our Community, it only makes sense to strengthen the relationship we have in the School District and the students we are here to encourage and support. She concluded her presentation by saying “in the coming year, we shall continue to support the efforts of Rotary International in 100% eradication of Polio, the Rotary Foundation, District 7390 and Group E”. We are a part of something so amazing and spiritually rewarding! Let’s get excited! Let’s not look at our efforts in Rotary to be a task, but rather a privilege, a joy and a gift!”

HARRISBURG-KEYSTONE Harrisburg Keystone Rotary Club volunteered at the Five Sens-es Gardens in Swatara Township July 14. The gardens are part of the Capital Area Greenbelt, a 20-mile loop around the city, and structured so visitors can experience nature through each of their five senses. They are maintained by volunteers, both individuals and groups like Rotary. We also trekked to City Island for the Senators versus the New Hampshire Fisher Cats July 21. With lots of food and friends, the club had a significantly better night than did the Senators, who went down 7-1. On Tuesday, Sept. 15, the Club will celebrate its 10th anniversary. Watch for more details!
