Rosh HashanahFamily Activity Booklet
Puzzles, recipes, activities & more!
It’s High Holiday Time!Rosh Hashanah is a time for children and their families to pause from school and work to celebrate the Jewish New Year, and to observe Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.
Giant wishes you a “L’shana Tovah,” and hopes you enjoy this booklet of puzzles, recipes and activities designed to bring added meaning and enjoyment to your holiday. The puzzles will test your knowledge of Rosh Hashanah and the recipes are traditional dishes that can easily be prepared by kids and parents, together.

Challah
Place 3 cups of warm water in bowl. Add 2 tbl yeast and 1 tbl sugar. Stir gently. Allow to sit until bubbly. (Yeast must be bubbly) Place flour, salt in mixer or large bowl. Once yeast mixture is bubbly, add to flour/salt. Then add canola oil, honey and beaten eggs. Mix for 5 minutes in mixer. (If by hand, mix/knead until well mixed.) Let dough rest on a lightly floured board ten minutes, then flatten and press in raisins as evenly as possible into the dough, folding dough over raisins to “tuck” them in. Spray top of dough with spray oil, cover with plastic wrap then with a towel. Let rise for 45 minutes or more. (If you leave it longer, punch it down, then re-cover and let rise again.) Separate in 3 large balls, then roll each ball into 3 strands and follow illustrations below. (or make each ball into a longer stand and follow the “Round Holiday Challah” method above.) Brush beaten egg on top of loaf, then bake at 350°F for 25-35 minutes, until golden and bottom sounds hollow when tapped.
