OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE NOVEMBER 24, 2019

So does the “Thx” do it for you? Is it enough to get the point across? Well for those who know how to shortcut with texting, you might already understand I mean “thanks.” Beyond etiquette or Miss Manners, I wonder if we have only shortchanged the point of giving thanks for the sake of being trendy or quick...lol? I mean, if we do not take the time to offer a proper and heartfelt thanks, then what will be next...people who don’t want to get together on Thanksgiving because their family drives them nuts? Or they end the day real early so they can run to the movies? Or try, begin Black Friday on Thanksgiving Thursday so you can have another focus on your mind besides family

and faith? Right... as if any of those things would happen! I don’t want you to think I’m making a big deal out of nothing, or that I’ve lived with Fr. Bearer too long and that because he hates abbreviations ending with “x” that I’m somehow becoming too affected by him. I believe we are becoming a culture of truncations, instead of being a people who should desire the fullness of meaning. Perhaps, this is what is happening in so many churches who lack a desire for The Eucharist (which, BTW/by the way, comes from the Greek word eukharistia/eukharistos meaning thanksgiving/grateful). This Thanksgiving Day, don’t be so quick to send off a “thx” when you can be truly grateful and come to our 9:30 Mass. Please consider bringing some help to those in need by bringing some supplies to restock our St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. The list of necessities is on the next page.

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVEThe St. Vincent de Paul Society of our parish is in need of donations to restock their food pantry. They are in most need of the following items: Cold cereal, pasta sauces, Sloppy-Joe sauce, peanut butter and jelly, Ramen noodles, macaroni and cheese, paper towels and toilet paper. We are also in need of the following canned items: fruit, chicken, tuna, corn, green beans, mixed vegetables and soup. If you are donating from your home pantry, please check expiration dates on food items. If you could bring these items for our usual Thanksgiving Day collection at the 9:30 morning Mass that day, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you are able, please take your items to your seat with you so that you may present them to the Altar during our offertory procession. And if you’ll be making a monetary donation, please make your check payable to St. Vincent de Paul. Thank you.

COLLECTION INFORMATIONThe collection for last weekend was $16,959.11.Our parish is blessed by your generosity!

PLEASE PRAY FOR VOCATIONSThe list of volunteers to receive the Vocation Crucifix has dwindled. We would be so grateful if you would call the parish office to arrange to take the Crucifix and pray for an increase of vocations. With Father Bline heading to the seminary to serve as Spiritual Director for the young men in formation,

our prayers are needed more than ever. Dan and Karen Crookston received the crucifix this weekend. Please call the parish office at 330-644-2225 to have your name added to the list.

REST IN PEACEPlease remember in your prayers the soul of parishioner Martin Volk and Beatrice Jordan, mother of Janet Karson. May perpetual light shine upon them and may the Lord console their families and friends.

ADVENT EVENING OF PRAYERFOR WOMEN

Advent is a beautiful time in our liturgical year for building hope in our hearts for the promised coming of Jesus. The Scriptures come alive with familiar stories of the Holy Family and the birth of Jesus. We will pray with those scriptures through the eyes of St. Joseph and explore some of our Advent traditions at the Advent Evening of Prayer for Women on Wednesday, December 4th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Upper Room. All women are welcome. This event replaces the Women’s Day of Reflection. Please RSVP to the Parish Office (330) 644-2225 by November 26, 2019. Space is limited.

Parish Pastoral Council and the Falcon Family Network invites you to enjoy donuts and refreshments with Santa Claus Sunday, December 8th after the 9:00 Mass in the gym. Snap your own pictures with Santa, create crafts with the kids, and soak in the holiday spirit. This event is free and open to everyone. Hope to see you there! Please notice this event is only after the 9:00 Mass this year.

MATTHEW 10:8 AFTER THE 11:00 A.M. MASS

FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTHIf you or a loved one would like to receive prayers for healing, know that a new group is forming at St. Francis de Sales called Matthew 10:8. These St. Francis de Sales parishioners will be available to pray with you for healing after the 11:00 a.m. Mass the first Sunday of the month. The name Matthew 10:8 comes from Jesus’ call for Catholics to “Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give” (Mt. 10:8). This is a beautiful opportunity for faith and prayer from your fellow parishioners who want to pray with you for healing. Please keep Matthew 10:8 in your prayers, too, as they seek to bring Jesus’ healing into the world through prayer.

OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE NOVEMBER 24, 2019

As I reflect on all of my blessings this week of Thanksgiving, I cannot help to think of what a beautiful parish and school community we have here at St. Francis de Sales! One of my favorite events at the school took place this past Friday when our whole school community, and honored guests, joined together for a traditional Thanksgiving meal. It’s a beautiful time where we can be together, be joyous, and most of all, be thankful. Our students are such a beautiful reminder to me of all of the simple joys in life!

While I am reflecting on all of my blessings, I wanted to say thank you to all of you for your prayers of love and support as I have prepared for my wedding. We feel blessed to be a part of such a wonderful faith family with so many examples of lasting love and Christ-centered families. I am over the moon to be returning from Thanksgiving break as Mrs. Dougherty! I pray that each of you enjoy a blessed and happy Thanksgiving!

With Gratitude, Ms. Katie Buzzelli
