Message From Ms Larosa
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Halloween is a big event in schools and provides opportunities for parties, creative activities,
art programs and of course our annual Halloween Parade. Our Halloween Parade will take
place Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., after class attendance has been taken. We hope you
can join us! The format for the parade is as follows: Classes will parade through the school
first and then make their way outside through the north doors to parade for our parents/
caregivers. All parents/caregivers are asked to wait outside as there will be no entry into the
school after 12:40 p.m. and we are limited for space. There will be a clearly marked area for
parents on the tarmac. We ask that you please stand behind the pylons so our students
may safety exit and parade. All classes, except for kindergarten, will then re-enter the build-
ing via the south doors for their afternoon festivities. Our kindergarten classes will remain
outdoors and perform the “Monster Mash” dance for your enjoyment!
In case of rain, please note the parade route will go through the gym instead of exiting the
north doors. If this is the case, we ask parents to line up around the periphery of the gym.
We recognize that not all students and families observe this celebration. Please inform your
child’s teacher if you would prefer that your child not participate in Halloween festivities. We
are committed to providing an inclusive environment by ensuring that all students feel wel-
comed and that all children are engaged in meaningful programming.

day, as well as any students who missed this opportunity on Picture Day.
Ensuring a Secure Building
I am writing this message asking parents to help us in ensuring our building is secure throughout the day. Please always use the
Main doors on Rolph Road when entering the school and make your way directly to the office. Please do not walk the hallways or
make your way to your child’s classroom once the instructional day has commenced. This is disruptive to the learning environment
and with over 300 families at Rolph, all adults working in the building do not recognize all parents. Should you need to communicate
an important message to your child’s teacher, they can be best contacted via their work email: first.lastname@tdsb.on.ca, or you
may write a note in your child’s agenda, or leave a message for them through the office.
Student Medical Needs
The Toronto District School Board has policies and procedures around the administration of medication in an emergency (e.g. Epi-
Pen due to allergic reaction) by Rolph staff. We require specific forms to be completed by parents and a child’s physician. Letters
will be going home this week and we ask that completed packages with physician instructions are returned to the office no later than
Friday, November 10th. Photographs of all students with medical alerts will be housed in the main office, staff room, and respective
classrooms.
Claude Watson School for the Arts- Attention Grade 3 Parents!
Each year, Claude Watson School for the Arts auditions students for admission to the school. There are 60 places available in the
Grade 4 year. The screening process for students is a series of studio experiences in Drama, Dance, Visual Arts and Music. Audi-
tions will be conducted in the months of February and March. If you are interested, the school will be holding an information session
on Monday, November 13th at Earl Haig Secondary School, 100 Princess Avenue, at 7:00 p.m. A flyer will be sent home this week.
Winter Clothing Drive @ Rolph starts November 6-13th - Details in next week’s Road Runner J.

Sporting News from the gym and field.
We would like to congratulate the Rolph Road Junior Boys Soccer team for a terrific North Conference Finals tournament.
We started as a Div II team with an equal mix of Grade 5 and Grade 6 students and with little aspirations of success as we went against bigger schools.
The boys won their pool on qualifying play and headed to Dublin Heights to win their Semifinals game 6-2 against a scrappy Ter-raview team.
We played a well-focused and intense game against a talented Harrison team and were able to win 8-0 for our first North Confer-ence Championship in recent memory. (Red Banner)
The excitement did not end there as for the first time, a Division 2 team was given the chance to face the North Conference Div 1 winner to qualify for the City's Finals.
We faced our hockey and badminton rivals Bedford. The boys used determination and energy to play a 3-3 draw in regular time. After 2 long extra time scoreless periods it was looking as penalties/shootouts were in the cards for both teams to determine a winner. Not so fast: the last minute of extra time, Declan Heritage scores in counterattack with a powerful shot from 20 meters. Golden Goal! Rolph Road is a top 4 soccer team in the whole City! Go Rolph!
House League
Grades 2 and 3 House League Indoor Soccer begins No-vember 1 (recess)
Junior House League Basketball continues (recess)
Soccer
Our junior girl's team finishes the season as City North Conference Grade 6 finalists in a well contested final with Rippleton. Congrats!
Our junior boy's Division 2 team win the City North Con-ference Championship in overtime against the Grade 6 Division 1 champions Bedford Park and advance to the City Championship played at the Monarch Park Indoor soccer venue on November 1. We are now ranked in the top 4 teams in all of Toronto!! Go Roadrunners!
Cross Country
Season ended last week with 5 Roadrunners at City Finals with personal bests against the top runners in all of Toron-to.
Girls Volleyball
Junior team tryouts begin on Tuesdays after school. (Grades 4, 5 and 6 eligible)
Thanks to all the volunteers who have stepped up to be Class Reps this year!
Class Reps will be Home & School liaisons, their ultimate goal is to make parents within the class feel more connected as a community. Class reps will further help teachers connect with parents for classroom celebrations/parties/trips etc., and are welcome to work with you to organize group teacher gifts. Important information from Home & School regarding upcoming events will also be distributed by your class rep, so if you’re not already receiving emails from your rep, please reach out to them directly to ensure you’re on the list.
