Our speaker today was Dianne Boos, shown here receiving her
thank you from our club, she is on the way to the moon.
Dianne talked about some of the ways to communicate with peo-
ple who are deaf, most children born to deaf parents become part
of the “Deaf Culture” others, try to assimilate themselves into the
hearing world . Remember which either you are talking to, make
eye to eye contact at all times . There are different ways of con-
versing with people who are not able to hear, one is American
Sign Language which is not universal and the Manuel Alphabet as
shown on page two. ASL is not words but concepts, facial expres-
sions are part of the communication system , but no matter which
you choose try to always face the person you are communicating
with, allowing them to see your facial expressions and body lan-
guage. Dianne did a great job and majored in sign at college and
help to teach it. She was called in at last minute and like the true
Rotarian she is, she came through for her club. We thank her for
stepping up, for those who did not make it you missed a good
one. It pays to come to the club you never know what you might
learn.
