Seminar to the Australian Hydrographic Service, Wollongong, NSW, 8 July 2010

Seminar outline• What are the issues?• Data sources.• Data challenges.• Data statistics.• Gridding process.• Present the gbr100 V1.0 model.• Future research & opportunities.

What are the issues? High-res depth model required within a whole-of-

GBR scale hydrodynamic model. Lack of info about deep-water ecosystems lying

deeper than 200 m in GBRWHA. Vast areas of reefs and shoals have never been

mapped with modern survey techniques. Key seabed features are hidden from view and

outside of effective management.

Future research & opportunities• Public accessible formats by 30 Sept 2010.• Ongoing revision of gbr100 grid (V2.0+).• Fine-scale geomorphic maps by June 2011.

• Expanded spatial coverage at 100 m-resolution?• Satellite bathymetry for remote reef areas?• New uses for 3D grids and collaborations?
