1 Introduction to document
1.1 Document Overview This document is the product description of the RNC data collector. Document contains main aspects of the system and partly detailed information of benefits & features of the system. Document target is to give reader general understating of the RNC data collector and how to use it.
In case you need more detailed information you can find from NOLS, Care -> Software Delivery -> WCDMA RNC.

2 Introduction to L3-viewer
2.1 Background Radio networks being more and more and complicated more need of proper tools and services are needed. There has also risen need of customer side for proper services to meet current complex Radio Networks systems. Mobile network vendors have also noticed that it’s not anymore enough just delivery networks but also deliver proper maintenance and tracing.
There is a need for tools and methods to facilitate testing and customer support. Currently testing, tracing and troubleshooting of RNC and RAN contain a lot of meticulous work and not much automation is used to run the tests and interpret test results. There is no proper way to check current status of RNC’s and do the periodic maintenance tasks considering RNC care and customer support. L3-viewer is a tool for help tracing radio network and subscribers.
2.2 Definition
The message data collector (Megamon) is tool to get and save message flows.
L3-analyzer/viewer (Emil) is tool to view and analyze message flows from big monitoring in quickly and user friendly way.

3 Tool Structure The RNC data collector actually consists on two different parts, a data collector (Megamon) and a data Analyzer/Viewer (Emil). Below is picture of the system. Picture is simplified version of environment where is RNC included. System consist three parts: an interface-process operates inside RNC, the data collector collects data sent by interface process and the data analyzer parses data from the data collector. The RNC data collector can be installed many ways, see below pictures (1-3).

3.1 RNC Interface The interface process operates in every DX-units and collects messages and logs from RNC’s. The interface process is in default packet from RN2.2 CD2.
The interface process collects message- and log -data directly from RNC. It collects data based on a filter conditions that are set by Megamon. By using filters user can decide exactly what processes and what messages are monitored.
The message data are so huge that the unit must have direct LAN-connections (RJ-45 cables) to the RNC data collector.

3.2 Data collector (Megamon) SW
The data collector (Megamon) is Windows- program which collects messages data are sent by RNC. Megamon is also used to set parameters and filters to be used in message- and logs- collecting control. It is also suggested that the RNC data collector is run at own machine, because RNC’s units generate so much traffic. There can be several Gigabits data in just few hours. One call takes approximately 100 kb of data so 100 GB hardware can contain messages of million calls. The data are stored in special format for saving save disk space.
Normally the Megamon is set to collect data as ring buffer. It’s possible to maintain 1-2 days data in one 1TB HD.
Picture 5: The Megamon in configuration phase.
As said in RNC-interface-part, the Megamon receives data from RNC units. The Megamon also configures filter parameters and units to collect data from RNC. The Megamon sends configuration data to RNC before collecting data.
In picture 5 can be seen configuration parameters setting.

4 Installing phase
4.1 Wirings
The needed DX unit must be equipped with LAN-cable. There are two cable sets for RNC196 and RNC450/2600.
The sales items are:
RNC3314, Megamon Cable set for RNC450/RNC2600
RNC3315, Megamon Cable set for RNC196
4.2 IP Switch
Requirements for IP Switch are:
48 x 10/100 ports + 2 x GBE ports IP-Switch for each RNC.
For example: ZyXEL ES-3148 48-port Managed L2+ Fast Ethernet Switch, HP ProCurve Switch 2610-48 (J9088A) or type of switch from other manufacturer.

4.3 Galvanic isolation
The galvanic isolation must be proceeded, because the CHUS-cables don’t isolate ground potential between the RNC and mains current of the IP Switch. This can be done an isolation transformer or a power inverter.
4.3.1 Isolation transformer
Requirements for the isolation transformer:
Power VA 140 VA or more
Input voltage / Output voltage 110VAC/110VAC or 230VAC/230VAC
Weight Less than 2.5Kg
One used model: Trafox KM140.230 (http://www.trafox.fi/index.php?id=190)

4.3.2 Power Inverter
Requirements for the isolation transformer:
Power VA 140 VA or more
Input voltage range DC 38 – 58V
Output voltage range AC100-120V
Continuous power 150W or more
Output frequency 50Hz or 60Hz
Weight Less than 2.5Kg
One used model: BJA BJA-M151-48 (http://www.baojiaan.com/en_showcase/en_i154.htm)

5 Monitoring phase
5.1 RNC
The message monitoring uses processor time of RNC - unit’s (about 3 – 6%), but it doesn’t affect to normal RNC operation.
5.2 Data Collector
If the HD is used, then the time based writing and the disk size checking are recommended.
Typical message filter for ICSU-unit is:
SR:((OFAM=4FD)AND(OPRO>19B))OR(OFAM=509,508,507)
