many found themselves unemployed

- Soldiers needed money to support themselves and their families

- Demanded cash bonuses from the government denied

- Instead, the government offered small pensions, free land in the west, hospitals for the wounded

- Soldiers were ready to die for their country, but their country wouldn’t even give them a job?

- Soldiers felt proud of their victory, but unemployment in Canada made them feel humiliated
