KNOW THE DIFFERENCE Plain and simple, a duty describes what you did and an accomplishment describes how well you did it. For example, “planned events”

would be considered a job duty, whereas “raised $100,000 by selling out tickets to a 200-person charity event” is an accomplishment.

from Now to NextAngell College Center, Suite 118

career@plattsburgh.edu

Did I limit myself to one full page (there may be a few exceptions)?

Did I proofread for typos and grammatical errors?

Did I use an 11-12 pt. font?

Did I use only one side of the paper?

Did I use high quality resume/business correspondence paper?

Did I send electronic copy to myself or friend to see how it appeared?

Did I read the materials and examples that were presented to me?

Did I eliminate references on the resume (a separate reference page could be used)?

Did I limit bulleted sentence fragments to 5-6 per description?

Did I eliminate universities if no degree was obtained (study abroad is an exception)?

Did I include my complete contact information (i.e. e-mail address, area code, zip code)?

Did I provide details of experiences (age groups, types of programs)?

Did I quantify experience when possible?

Did I focus on accomplishments rather than just duties?

Did I use sentence fragments starting with action verbs?

Did I avoid using pronouns?
