RESEARCH OF TARGET AUDIENCEIn the next series of slides I would be researching different potential target audiences for my thriller trailer. By carryingout a research; I would be much more able to know what references to make how they may affect my audience. Although my group and I (kianna and Elizabeth) already have an idea of the specific age groups in which we would like our trailer to be viewed to, by carrying out this research we may find other social groups and age groups who may also be interested in our thriller trailer.

As displayed on the sides of this slide, most

thriller movies range from the ages 15-18. This is

due to the references made; which may not be

suitable for younger viewers.

This could include blood shed and violent

language and references.

These two movies have been rated 18.

meaning individuals under 18 should not be

permitted to view the media. This could be due

to extensive use of sex references and

extreme violence scenes.

Having said all of this, the target audience of

this movie would have to be mature adult

viewers who would not act out whatever they

may see in the movie.

SOME WELL KNOWN THRILLERS RATED 15Something all of these thrillers have in common (apart from the colours used) is that they are all rated 15. this means individuals under the age of 15 should not be permitted to watch the movie/trailer. However, haven taken a look at the trailers of these movies; I can identify that the target audience are more or less adults. Young adults and parents in particular. I say this because insidious plays on the fact that a young couple have a possessed little boy. Orphan again plays on the roles of parents, as again a fairly young couple decide to adopt a child.

While the assassin next door shows what women are willing to do for their children as well as what they are capable of when being oppressed ad abused my men.

Having said all of this I have also noticed that another thing these thrillers have in common is that there is an assumption/stereotype of their target audience in which they subsequently play on. Stereotypic representation would be something I and my group would have to think of extensively as it would help to add a sense of realism as my our target audience would feel a sense of similarity between our final product and themselves.

SOME WELL KNOWN THRILLERS RATED 18 Unlike the previous thrillers which I have just analysed (rated 15) these thrillers; “no.3” “7 days” and “dread” are much more horror like; especially 7 days and dread. The use of red and blood like stains immediately informs the audience that ages below 18 are not welcomed to watch the movie as it included heavy blood and gore scenes making it almost horror like.

However, my group members and I do not want to overload our thriller with too much blood and gore but rather to thrill them. Due to this, I believe my group and I would be much more likely to rate our product 15 as it paves room for moderate amount of blood and gore as well as thrill. Having said this, this would subsequently shape the narrative of our story because this controls and moderates the symbolisms used as well as the language used.

The End

1. After doing this research, my group and I have decided to target our thriller trailer at the ages 15-21. this is because they especially seek thriller however, this could get them into trouble; the moral of our product helps to convey a message about this to this particular age group.2. Also, due to the fact that the main character in our chosen fairytale is a female, it is appropriate to assume that the moral would be targeted around females. For instance, in the original story the wolf could be described as a “male” character which indirectly told women to avoid speaking to male strangers as they are dangerous. 3. Our version of little red ridding hood would be targeted towards vulnerable girls. This is because they may be more naïve and less able to defend themselves when in trouble. However, we have decided to add a twist to this as our main character (little red ridding hood) would seem shy and timid at first, however, would be able to protect herself as well as defend herself.4. Having said all of this; we would not be going for the stereotypical representation and previous movie narrations of young people as hoody-wearers and “trouble makers” but rather as individuals who seek to protect themselves from the ills of the world (from the wolf for example)5. To ensure audience satisfaction, our final product would have to include certain thriller which our target audience would be interested in. for instance a violent scene would help to thrill young people. As well as this it could help to reach audience expectations of the genre of our trailer.
