Emotional Literacy – Our ability to label our emotions as we

Inquiry:

my family history.
This task is included for today and tomorrow’s Inquiry.
You may want to make a start on it today and finish it tomorrow
or another day.
Task:
Personal Timeline
Create a personal timeline of at least 6 important events in your
life. You can use photos, drawings or words eg. When I was a
baby, when I began crawling, when I was a toddler, when I
went to kinder, when I started school and when I began year 1.
Visual Art: I can
experiment with
a variety of
textures in my
artwork.
Hello all you wonderful artists, in week 5 we are exploring
texture. Last week you had a choice of several activities using
line. This week we are using texture.
Texture is the way something looks and feels. We can feel
texture when we touch something. We can see texture with our
eyes. Rough, smooth, bumpy and soft are all types of textures.
Bark has a rough texture, silk has a soft texture. Different
textures are all around us. Last year we made a texture chart of
different textiles/fabrics and threads. Watch
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS18Ea8Hc38
Choose any of the three activities.
Activity 1.
Go on a texture hunt in your house and see how many you can
find. Draw the textures using the chart below and list one or two
things that have that texture. Print from the resource page. If you
don’t have a printer use this as a guide. You might need more
than one sheet of paper to write each down.
Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDVS9XSqt90
Activity 2.
Using a coloured pencil or crayon on A4 white copy paper
take a rubbing from interesting textures inside and outside the
house. A dark colour or red are best. Use two sheets. Put the
object down, paper over and rub. Hold the paper tight.
Watch again.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS18Ea8Hc38 See my
example.
Extension: Cut your rubbings up and glue them into a picture
on white copy paper. See my example.
Activity 3.
Make a collage
Step 1. Collect different textures of paper including of recycled
cardboard.
Step 2. Glue them into a design with a glue stick or pva.
Step 3. Find some different textures from the kitchen (rice,
pasta, herbs) you don’t need a lot. Ask your parent first. 4. Glue
these onto your design using a glue stick or pva. See my
example.
Have lots of fun experimenting with textures.
Keep your work I can’t wait to see it when back at school.

(optional).
JUST FOR FUN:
It’s time for your Youkai Watch Exercise!
Dance along to the video and don’t forget to have fun:

My Family
In Prep, you started to learn the words for your own family
members. These words are used for familiar people in casual
settings. Watch the Prep vocabulary video to revise and
practise these family words. I know you’re in Year 1 now!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlRFS-sk5Ko
Your Family
This year, you will be learning the more polite, formal words that
are used when describing someone else’s family members.
We’re going to start with a story called “Ojiichan’s Gift”. The
word “ojiichan” or “ojiisan” means grandfather. Listen to the
story read by Miss Breadon here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0TE1XvY0-k&t=5s
Do you have an ojiisan? What are some of the special things
you do together?
Activities:
*Make a card or small gift for your “ojiisan” if you have one. If
not, make one for your “obaasan” (grandmother) or another
elderly person in your life. If you can’t make something, then
give them a virtual hug over the phone or online and tell them
about the new words you have learnt.
*Have a go at making a mini Zen garden. The Japanese DIY
Zen Garden & Coloured Salt Instructions are in the Resources
section of Home Learning. Add rocks, pebbles, leaves and
other things from around the house to decorate your Zen
garden and use a fork or twig to create line patterns in the
sand or salt. Do you feel calm and relaxed when you’re raking?
Miss Breadon would love to see a picture of your Zen garden!
Let your teacher know
Bonus activity – if you’re really keen!
*Look up “onigiri” on Google. What are they and how do you
make them? You might like to try a simple recipe for your lunch
or dinner. Here is one suggestion but there are many online,
choose one that looks yummy:

Watch the video together:
https://youtu.be/-HQIg3ZwAs0
We all get angry and frustrated from time to time. This is normal
and totally ok. The problem with being angry is sometimes it
can make us lose control of our actions. It can make us say or
do things that we really don’t want to.
Can you think of a time when this happened to you?
What are some things you can do to calm down? Make a list
together. When you are finished children can decorate the list
and you can display it at home.
Ideas include; Take a deep breath, move away, take a
break/time out, count to 10, ask for a hug, scream into a pillow,
hit a pillow, ask for help.

Tune in:
Watch this video about Regular Plural Nouns
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdZPMEAtkcI
A noun names an object, person or place.
When a noun is singular, it means there is one of them. When a
noun is plural it means there is more than one.
Task:
- Read a good fit book.
- Read it through again and look for any words that are
plural - that have a plural ‘s’ on the end
- Like dog / dogs
- Make a table like the one above of the plural words you
find. Include some pictures.
- Can you think of a few more to add to your table?
Too easy? Try this extra challenge task!
Some nouns have an ‘es’ on the end to make them plural.
★ Can you list some?
★ What do you notice about the base words? For example
fox/foxes and wish/wishes
Remember:
Not all words ending with an S are plural - only if it means more
